My advice to players, if you have lots of time to play then try the ladder games. You need lots of time, to practice and study strategies, and when I say lots at least 4hrs of game play everyday. Progamers, for example Koreans, practice 12-16 hrs a day and against the best of the world too.
But if you want a game just for stress relief then DOTA is the better choice, since all you need to learn is how to use all the Heroes, what items to buy, then skills in managing ur one and only hero, and the most important of all teamwork. And once you get used to the game, then all you need is just to learn whats new and still you wont be left behind(unlike ladder, you need to practice alot). If you like to play solo then this game is not for you. You need to stick as a team to win.
