Prime lenses are sharper than their zoom counterparts and have a bigger opening/f-stop f/1.2-f/2.8. You have a shallow depth of field and would be able to blur your background from your subject. You would also be able to shoot in low light without or less motion blur compared to zooms.

It's a trade off between sharpness and convenience/flexibility. I usually use primes if I have a controlled environment. Most commonly used are the 50mm, 85mm and the 100mm macro.
