many critics are wondering ngano wala pa gyud kaapas si Kobe sa achievements ni Michael Jordan, na ang league unta karon, mas easier to score, mas weak ang defense...

right now Jordan - Kobe comparison

    Kobe Bryant

    4 NBA championship
    1 finals MVP
    1 reg. season MVP
    2 scoring titles

    Michael Jordan

    6 NBA championship
    6 finals MVP
    5 regular season MVP
1 defensive player of the year
    10 scoring titles

kobe isn't getting younger.. he has 3 to 4 years left in his career. kobe needs to win 5 straight finals MVP to equal Michael Jordan.. the question here.. can he do that?
    only time will tell...

kobe will not surpass jordan, but he will difinitely be remebered as one of the greatest to play in the game.. along with Magic and Bird..

I will not say he is better than Magic ang Larry Bird at this moment. bec.

    Larry Bird has

    3 NBA Championships
    3 regular season MVP
    2 Finals MVP

    Magic Johnson has
    5 NBA championships
    3 regular season MVP
    3 finals MVP

hahaha kani maoy sakto na pangutana..

ang pinkataas ra na ave. no kobe na wala si shaq kay 35 points per game...

while MJ's highest output was 37 points per game..

so in terms of scoring advantage gihapon si MJ kayo consistent kaayo siya season by season ave. at least 30 ppg in his prime...

Reason 1: Better defense, better players, more competition, and better basketball overall.

Kobe plays in the modern defensive era of traps, doubles, and zone defenses. From the year 2001, the NBA effectively legalized zone defensive, thus discouraging 1-on-1 play. Compare this to Michael Jordan's weaker era, where had to luxury of playing "iso" all game long. Kobe cannot even post up without getting doubled.

Many people think zone's are weak defenses, that is because so many teams don't play it properly. While they may be weak against great passing teams with shooters, if played properly, zone defenses are great against dominant individuals (Kobe, Garnett, etc) that have a weak supporting cast. The whole world plays zone. Even in College basketball, the "purest" form of basketball, the teams play almost entirely zone defense. Around the world, other countries use zone all the time. And if you want to see its effectiveness, just look at the 2006 summer games.

Furthermore today's NBA is far more competitive. Not only does Kobe have to deal with zone, he goes up against taller, bigger and stronger defenders than Jordan ever did. Back in the 1980's most of the shooting guards Jordan played against were 6''2 to 6''4. Kobe can shoot over shorter players like that with unbelievable efficiency, yet he plays against players that are 6''5 to 6''9. In the 80s, outside of a few good teams (Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Knicks) there was really not that much competition. Today, even the worst teams in the league (i.e bobcats, hawks) are good and can hold their own with any team they face.

Sure, the 80's was a more physical brand of basketball. But physicality, does not translate into effectiveness. If you ask any great scorer which is harder: 1) Playing with double and triple teams or 2) Having to deal with stiff-arms and armbars, they would chose the former. And furthermore, you think Kobe doesn't face armbars/stiff-arms? How can you guard Kobe without using your hands? It is impossible. With the rules the way they are, Kobe should be getting two free throws on almost every trip down.

    Reason 2: Individual skill sets

Michael Jordan revolutionized the game of basketball and defined the future of the SG position. Then Kobe Bryant came along, and perfected this. When you compare their two skill sets, it goes like this:

Kobe Bryant: Better shooter, better ball-handler, better range, better play maker, better passer, better off-hand, better scorer, better killer instinct.

Michael Jordan: Smarter player, more efficient, more consistent defensively.

The both have the about equal footwork and "clutch" abilities.

In 2006, Phil Jackson said that "Kobe is better than Michael with the basketball." Even when Kobe was only 21 years old, Phil already said that Kobe is a better playmaker:

"I think it's the best that I've ever seen a player of mine play with an overall court game. I'm asking him to do so much, and he's accomplishing it. I never asked Michael to be a playmaker."

So why is Michael Jordan revered while Kobe Bryant is not?

Michael Jordan had such a big impact on basketball financially and economically. In the early 80's, the league was in recession and basketball wasn't that big. When Michael Jordan came around, the league and its sponsors (Nike, Gatorade, etc), took a great player in Michael Jordan and turned him into an icon. Michael was a master of controlling his image, and appealing to the people. This is something Kobe has not managed to do. Jordan could do no wrong with fans, and possessed an almost saint-like status. It is this nostalgia and this image of Jordan that fans have come to love. This is why they cannot accept that Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan. By better, I don't mean statistically. Jordan will always have better numbers, averages, and accolades than Kobe. Period. But skill-wise and ability-wise, Kobe has surpassed him in this tougher era of basketball.

Lastly, there is a popular myth that Jordan won 6 titles as a one-man show. This is far from the truth. He played with:

    -3 All-Stars (Pippen, Rodman, Grant)
-2 of the games best defenders (Pippen and Rodman)
-1 of the 50 greatest players of all-time (Pippen)
-2 The games best 3 point shooters (Kerr and Kukoc)

Even without Michael Jordan, Pippen and the bulls managed to get a staggering 55 wins.
if u have a good analysis then u would simply know whose the better player. JORDAN is not juz a better player HE IS INDEED THE BEST PLAYER WHO EVER PLAYED BASKETBALL. HE IS LIKE THE GOD OF BASKETBALL IF THERE IS. if you have the knowledge to play basketball then you will know the difference. i'll tell u mine first.

    JORDAN:

GREAT LEADERSHIP - he can score whenever he likes too but he always is an excellent leader which always trust his teammates. a leader that can unite his team and ignite the fire in them. he's got an aura that once you play with JORDAN you have self-confidence, pure determination n killer instinct instantly. He is the big brother of the team always. The result is 72 wins and that added to his greatness. How close is kobe’s team to that?

PURE KILLER INSTINCT - juz look at his stats during the playoffs and finals. his scoring average will rise up significantly since that is where JORDAN's true greatness comes out. JORDAN never let his team down and will always, i mean ALWAYS rises to the occassion whenever he needs to, and thats PURE killer instinct. JORDAN never lost any FINALS and his FINALS SCORING AVERAGE at one point reaches at 44 pts a game. IMAGINE THAT and compare that to any KOBE's final average.
CLUTCH PERFORMER - do i have to tell you HOW MANY TIMES JORDAN HITS THE WINNING BASKET? juz look at his last shot against UTAH. that was the best clutch shot he made in my opinion yet its jus one of his CLUTCH SHOTS to remember. how many KOBE has ryt now?

PRESSURE-IMMUNED - JORDAN loves pressure so much as that is the time when he will showcase his abilities and skills to the whole world. time and time again JORDAN saves his team during pressure moments and thats WHERE no body, i mean NOBODY can withstand except for JORDAN.

CREATIVITY - where were you when JORDAN played BASKETBALL? his moves are the real ART of BASKETBALL. he can fly, he can move where nobody can imitate, and can do things unbelievably and shoot the ball impossibly. i recommend that you buy a DVD of JORDAN ad compare that to kobe's move. YES KOBE HAS A THOUSAND MOVES BUT ITS JUZ A FRACTION TO JORDAN’s COUNTLESS MOVES.

DOES YOUR KOBE HAS ALL OF THESE? NOT ONE EITHER? HOW MANY TIMES was KOBE saved by SHAQ and HORRY during the pressure moments? and the latest, was it FISHER who saved the LAKERS by hitting the clutch two 3 pointers? am i correct? KOBE LOST TWICE IN THE FINALS, am i correct again? DID HIS SCORING AVARAGE RISES UP SIGNIFICANTLY DURING THE PLAYOFF AND FINALS? CAN YOU SAY HE IS A GREAT LEADER? HOW MANY TIMES DID HE SAVED THE LAKERS? HOW MANY SAVING BASKETS HE HAVE SO FAR? WHERE DOES HIS INSPIRATION CAME FROM?
KOBE IS A GOOD FOLLOWER to JORDAN AND THAT’S THE REAL FACT!

the thread starter here is insisting that kobe is better than MJ when he haven't even seen MJ play in his prime...

og ni admit pud ni siya na nagtan aw ra siya sa NBA sa panahon ni kobe..

unsaon man nimo pag compare kung si kobe ra ang imo nakit an, then wala ka kakita sa isa...

    its pure senseless na comparison...
