The biggest lie in human history. It has been responsible for more deaths throughout human history than all other unnatural causes combined. For a thousand years the Church was a tyrannical dictatorship that used religion to control the uneducated masses.

A religion that would have made sense had it not been for the nature and character of its followers. Some of the most violent wars and genocides during the last 2000+ years can be blamed on the spread of Christianity.

I read the little story again and I really think it's a nice analogy. The lake as sin that we are all immersed in, and Buddha and Jesus as proponents of two worldviews that offer different ways out of the reality of sin. I'm not sure if it necessarily puts Buddhism in a bad light. I may be mistaken, but isn't Buddhism essentially about self-detachment? Detachment from the pain and suffering of the world? In the story, the Buddha could only offer advice to the drowning man, while Jesus actually entered the lake and rescued him. I think that's an accurate description because according to the Christian view, God became man and saved us from the penalty of sin, death, by dying on the cross on our behalf.

Yes of course swimming is an action but look! there is difference. Budha just teach us from the sea of sin while Jesus dove to rescue us. We did not exert effort to get into the other side because Jesus did not just help us while in the sea of sin but carried us in His power to get us from the mire of sin.

What I meant was the issue of faith and works. Is it enough that we have faith in Jesus for us to be saved? In the story, being saved did not only mean having faith, it also implied learning how to swim in order to pull others out of the lake of sin. That requires action or work.

I also think that Christianity is really a religion.

I don't think we can really evaluate the validity of a worldview by looking at its social impact. Yes, many people from the Church committed horrible acts in the past, but does it follow that the truth claims of Christianity are false? Similarly, we must also recognize that crimes against humanity were also committed by people who were not very religious in recent decades. Does that mean that the truth claims of their philosophy are necessarily false?
