There is actually different origins or the rosary, as debated by most theologians.
Rosary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The version I heard from a homily long time ago, says that the rosary is a summarized prayers for the psalms and the songs then it evolved into a prayer that was wholly dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
But whatever the reason is, the Rosary, as we know and practice it today, presents a very good chance of salvation and a way to communicate with our heavenly mother for her intercession.
Yep, it needs to be blessed by the priest and you need to believe in it(the scapular) and the promise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that whoever wears it, and will die on first Saturdays, will be saved(and if you are in the purgatory, the Blessed Virgin Mary will come and get youI always thought that scapular are blessed ( ordinarily by a priest ) and worn of course and be devoted to it .) and will die in a very peaceful way.
Just like Cory Aquino, she had a very rough time during, around Friday July 31st, and the past weeks (which was the reason for the false death report of her), but then later on that day, it was reported that her situation got stable, but then she died, on a first Saturday. I envy her.
di importante kinsa ning hatag. pwd ra gani ikaw ang ning palit nya ang importante is na blessed na imo scapular.
pwede ra man ikaw mupalit basta bendisyonan lang.

so if not enrolled ( ritual performed properly), and ordinary blessing lang ,its serves no use?
i was given one when i was kid ...dunno what it was...just thought of it as a lucky charm to ward off evil spirit until i remebered it and search the net the meaning to be wearing one.
