this is no longer true. most writers nowadays are already capable of producing high quality burns even at higher speeds. some, like the BenQ, can even overspeed. tried burning a cheap media at lower and higher speeds and found no difference in the quality.

LiteOn dvd drives is no good...i have one and i dont recommened it.
also have samsung and i dont recommned it either.
LG DVD-+RW is ok...but the LG DVD-RAM capable drive is VERY VERY GOOD.
this is my favorate so far...very fast...no problems with all brands of DVD MEDIA and even CDRs (it simply impressed me).

the thing bout it lang gyud is that in some cases i cant burn at 4x or lower (no option) in some cheapo DVD-R it automaticaly burns at 8x. that same media with the liteon i can burn as slow as 2x. wierd. but no problems in playback naman so no biggy...

i also have tested a cheapo CDRW on the liteon cant detect/burn.
that cdrw is rated 4x-8x and works only at 4x with my external cyberdrive cd-rw burner.
but then when i burn it on the LG DVDRAM, it only has one setting at 10x hehehe...wierd! but burns perfectly every time.

btw i use NERO.
