i think this answers to Metz...

supposedly gahapon man unta ni anhion (as usual... naa nsad mga alibi and more).. karon plang nila na-anhi.. so far OK man ang connection nako karon.. NETSTAT says 52.3kbps ang ako speed then bandwidth is 300.2 (bandwidth meter is tested on pldtplay.com).. the contructor told me nga g-change daw nila ang signal port sumthing thru sa canopy antenna ... Actually gahapon ug karon ok man ang connection so mao rna ang ilang mahimo sa pagkakaron.. HIMALA!!!!

By the way, naa koy i-share nga post from pinoywifi.com

SMART WIFI's performance depends on five things namely:

    1. location of your site
    2. skill and knowledge of the contractors
    3. the subscriber module (the antenna)
    4. the base station
    5. your PC

    1. location of your site - smart wifi like any other network (including wired) is subject to interferences.. so if you've got tall walls around your site or high foliage (like trees) then chances are attenuation (interference) is high.

suggested soloution : request for another 10ft increase in antenna.. though i think they charge extra bucks for it..

    2. skill and knowledge of the contractors - the people performing site visits are NOT SMART EMPLOYEES since they are just contractors. The problem is that SMART seems to have a very poor contractor selection policy. These contractors install the antenna WITHOUT looking for a clear LINE OF SIGHT. Once the antenna picks up signal, they're off.

suggested soloution: STUDY. it will be very very helpful if you read forums like these because you eventually gain knowledge about the ins and outs of wireless internet. If these contractors don't have the knowledge, you might as well provide it to them once they arrive at your homes. you can suggest them the soloution to your problems. try downloading the manual for the canopy system and do some research.. its VERY long though..

    3. the subscriber module (the antenna) - location is not the only issue regarding the antenna but of course the antenna itself! if it has been poorly configured or the antenna in itself is malfunctioning, then there goes your hopes for a good internet connection.

suggested soloution: TELL SMART ABOUT IT. its true that customer service sucks big time since they are very slow in attending customer needs but if you do have time try investing some in calling them. pag nakulitan sila, eventually magpapadala na sila ng tao.. just hope and pray that these guys are good.. and once they come suggest the ida that the antenna may be the problem.

    4. the base station - the base station is the module in which our antennas connect to. Thse stations provide us with connection. If there is a a problem with the base station, then of course it will be passed on to the subscribers.

suggested soloution: CHANGE BASE STATION or ACCESS POINT type 169.254.1.1 in your browse to access the canopy configuration page. go to AP eval data and rescan for another AP. if this doesn't change anything then go tell SMART about it. just don't tell them that you accessed the canopy since I'm not really sure whether they allow subscribers to access it.

    5. your PC - of course, if you have a badly configured PC or your PC is already old, then every process it runs (not only internet) will be unsatisfactory.

suggested soloution: CLEAN UP! delete unnecessary programs especially adwares and other wares that use up not only internet bandwidth but processor and RAM as well. The best way to clean up is to reformat the hard drive, install a new operating system and applications. If you have problems regarding backup, then try looking for partitionmagic or other windows based drive management software which can partition your HDD and will enable you to save important data. Also, have a reliable anti-virus software with updated virus patterns running always. Also regularly check for spywares and adwares using highly available anti-spyware programs (like the one included in the yahoo toolbar). and if your PC is around 1Ghz or slower and your RAM is 128MB or lower, then start saving up for that new PC that you need.

    hope you learned something..
