Here's my take on what makes your tone.

Electric Guitar (strings, pups, electronics) - 40 %
Guitar Amp (tubes or SS, speaker type) - 40 %
Cable (believe or not your guitar cable could make or break your tone) - 10 %
    Effect pedals (OD/Dist, Comp, gates, EQ's, Time based effects) - 10 %

    X-Factor! - It's all in the hands!
daghan jud ko makat-unan nimo pre dah!

sa ako napaminawan nga mga demos brad ky, for bass: ok ang jet phaser (forgot the brand), morley nga wah nga naay fuzz, ug maxon compressor. sa guitar: sa mga bug-at nga ako nadunggan, nindot ug quality ang jackhammer sa marshall, ug DS-1 nga keeley. IMO

ako bassist ko bai.i use bostons and berhingers kay AFFORDABLE ra.

its true about what they say about the bass: YOU DON'T NEED EFFECTS! but. if you want to add color to your tone and flexibility in your sound then by all means, use effects. but then again, if you have top of the line basses like certain series of warwicks for example, then effect pedals might not bring out the true color of your bass.

my personal line up (in my dreams) would have to be: Sansamp Bass Driver/DI Box, Boss GEB7, Aphex Punch Factory Compressor, Digitech Bad Monkey Overdrive (yes, it works incredibly with basses), Boss Bass Chorus or Chorus Ensamble, Boss Octaver.to me, a must have for evry bassist is a compressor (its more like the counterpart of the distortion for guitarist). the bass tends to getso loud when shifting from finger plucking to slapping so you need to control your dynamics. some better basses nowadays have woods that make the sound of the bass compressed by default. so having an external compressor would be redundant and would only squish your tone too much. when starting out with effects, i suggest that you start with compressors, then add and eq or a preamp, then perhaps a decent overdrive, and if its not enough then go crazy with modulations. there's no rules to it, it more of a personal preference.

    PS.
try mo anang berhinger bdi21 kay nndot na!gadumot ko ana kay barato, ay, AFFORDABLE diay. bwahahaha!
