Doctrine (Latin:
doctrina) is a codification of beliefs or "a body of
teachings" or "instructions", taught principles or positions, as the body of teachings in a branch of knowledge or
belief system.
a body of
teachings
-- all christians follow the Teaching of CHRIST through his GOSPELS. GOSPEL are all written in the Bible. So Generally what is there in the Bible Christians will follow.
instructions
-- this is where we vary. Protestant Christian and Catholic Christian. To give you example...
Confession:
Protestant: Pray to Christ and ask for forgiveness of Sins.
Catholic : Is Through Priest. (Catholic you may want to correct me on this).
Bible
Protestant: Dont Believe in the Book Maccabees and Others
Catholic : Included on their Teachings.
Purgatory:
Protestant: Do not believe on Purgatory.
Catholic : Included on their Teachings
Organization:
Protestant : Scattered from small Churches. NO visible body Governing. Supposed to Avoid Mixing with Politcs. But not anymore... too bad.
Catholic : Vatican Governs the Churches and Bishops. Bishops Governs Priest.
So to make this clear brad as a listener to the WORD. We listen almost about the same, only those Instruction were different or not Applicable. In essence brad, no Christian Denomination can Claim who interpret it RIGHT.
But I believe those who interpret the Closest were the ones who interpret it According to the Scriptures. If it is inside context there is no way anyone can claim. If it is outside then its no CONTEST it must be WRONG.
For Example the ANGLICANS' they protest the existence of POPE but they are still very CATHOLIC. That is the reason why there are a lot of denominations. But to the listener point of view its the WORD that counts. It might be CRUEL to say in the context wise... but there is just no way to tell people you are DOING IT RIGHT... only you are doing it WRONG.
Catholics You might want to Clarify Things, if I posted it wrong, I stand corrected on this part.
