We are already in a war.

But all we can really afford isn't even equivalent to half a squadron of Cobras. Still superior to an entire squadron of MG520s because of the heavier weapons load and superior sensors and targeting suite.

On the technical side (outside of avionics and sensors), kaya na kaayo na sa atong Air Force. The original Cobra is basically a UH-1 Huey with a flattened fuselage cross-section (to cut drag and make it harder to hit) and weapons. The rotor system, engine, drive train, tail boom and tail rotor system are Huey. Of course the subsequent Cobra versions have advanced since then but the ancestry is undeniable.
