The Milky Way, as most of us know, extends in a general north-south direction in the night sky. The plane of the ecliptic is the track the Sun, Moon, planets and stars appear to travel in the sky, from east to west. It intersects the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle near the constellation Sagittarius.

The cosmic cross formed by the intersecting Milky Way and plane of the ecliptic was called the Sacred Tree by the Maya. The trunk of the tree, the Axis Mundi, is the Milky Way, and the main branch intersecting the tree is the plane of the ecliptic. Mythically, at sunrise on December 21, 2012, the Sun - our Father - rises to conjoin the center of the Sacred Tree, the World Tree, the Tree of Life..

Due to a phenomenon called the precession of the equinoxes, caused by the Earth's wobble that lasts almost 26,000 years, the apparent location of the Winter Solstice sunrise has been ever so slowly moving toward the Galactic Center. Precession may be understood by watching a spinning top. Over many revolutions the top will rise and dip on its axis, not unlike how the Earth does over an extremely long period of time. One complete rise and dip constitutes the cycle of precession.

I'm an amateur astronomer. The precession of equinoxes does occur, but it has NOTHING to do with the world ending or whatever.

This claim, just like the claim of this morning's solar eclipse causing a tsunami, or the "Mars getting close to earth and causing great cataclysm" were all hatched by people who are bored with life and want something exciting to happen, and people who, in one way or another, would benefit from the hysteria. One good example of benefiting from the hysteria. Once, there was a seer who said the world will end on July 24, 1981, because God said so, and that the only way for the world to be saved, is when people light candles and hold a fistful of salt on 12 noon that day...

...so guess how much money the candle and salt seller (who was the father of the "seer") earned that day? Enough to leave the country and enjoy a comfy life elsewhere.

why do we worry so much of the end of the world, it's something beyond our powers to accurately foresee..instead of dwelling so much of our time on that issue, why not we find ways to enjoy life and live to the fullest so when that comes we won't have any regrets of a wasted life...who knows our death might be sooner than the world would halt
