actually, you can't tell which is worst.
why? that's because you don't have the same number of HDDs of each brand.
some say it's seagate, and that's because they never tried others brands yet or it's the most number that they have.
ato lang gikuha ang statistics. base sa mga gipang repair, service sa mga companies, home service, personal use, etc. at least base sa experience mahibaloan nato unsay hdd nga daghan ug guba.
i still have my 40gb seagate for 4 years also, so far no problems encountered. basta swerti swerti ra lagi na. I asked my friends in computer stores unsay daghag reklamo. ila tubag, pareparehas ra gyud.
IBM which is now Hitachi IBM..... never failed me.... no bad sectors after 8 years... i sold it here 4gb model
naa ra na sa inyo system, kung magsegi mo kabrownoutan, naa possible nga mabadsector, crash na.... i have 3 WD here 540 is almost dying but still running ang prob lang kay maglagotok na ang bearing sa sulod.. mga 11 years na, ako na lng giparetire kay makapilit sa system...
WD are cool and quite nurag AMD cool nd quite technology...
kung gusto mo sa cool and quite nga WD kadto palita ang special edition....
i have a lot of friends using Seagate pero makulbaan ta kay galagutok mn inig seek and read and write sa head...murag batan on nga natigulang dali ang ila HD...
ambot kanus a kaha to ma available ang WD nga clear ang cover para makita nimo unsay ginabuhat sa head sa HD....
Worst HDD is katong Maxtor nga Slim version and The Hitatchi "Deathstar" (Deskstar). Maxtor kay dali ma corrupt ang data and ang desktar suffers from the Click of death.
Bati sad tong Western Digital nga 20G version.. click of death gihapon.
NO HDD's are immune to defect, I've read from several internet forums saying that "WD is t3h l337, m4xt0r sux0rz...." and others who claim the exact opposite... if you want HD's that are 99.9% sure to not fail, get the SCSI 15K RPM drives, the one's used on high-end servers. They also cost a fortune though.
For me, nothing beats a good backup strategy.
BTW: Maxtor's been bought by Seagate, AFAIK there are only these companies that remain making HD's
- Hitachi
- Seagate/Maxtor
- Samsung
- Western Digital
