samot kalibug brad, kay ang uban lga775 actually supports ddr3. sa intel procie, it all depends on the northbridge. P45, X48 and X58 and sonn-to-be-present P55 supports DDR3. sa AMD procie, only AM3 procie supports DDR3. Both of these are backward compatible with DDR2, so depende na sa manufacturer if ibutang ba nila DDR2 or DDR3 sockets.
the only way to be sure is to READ and READ and READ...

DDR3 is not backward compatible.
DDR3 modules do not fit into DDR2 sockets.
i have not heard of a motherboard that supports both DDR3 and DDR2 in the same memory slot.
But there are motherboards that supports both DDR3 and DDR2 (different slots)
like this one
green & orange - for ddr2
blue & red for ddr3
MSI Unveils DDR2+DDR3 Combo Motherboard - Tom's Hardware
so to answer your question
DDR3 DIMMs have 240 pins, the same number as DDR2, and are the same size, but are electrically incompatible and have a different key notch location
bro, read my previous post carefully, i dont mean backward compatible by sockets, its backward compatible by controller. ddr3 dont fit sa ddr2 sockets, and vice versa. what i mean by backward compatibility is support by the chipset (intel) or processor (amd). x48 can support ddr3, and so is P45. as u can see, there are P45 that supports ddr3, like the extreme edition of intel motherboards. and so are am3 processors which housed the memory controller for amd boards. phenom II can support ddr2.
again, they are not compatible by sockets...

@poldo naa bay DDR2 that runs at default 1066Mhz? cause sa akong case dapat pa i overclock ang ram para mo run at 1066 (ie. dapat 2.1~2.4 v). I set it at 2.08v.
most motherboards set their ram straps @ 800MHz...that is why you have to change the memory dividers to get it to 1066MHz...but their are also motherboards intelligent enough to read the EPP in the rams and automatically set it to 1066...one example is the XFX 780i Tri-SLI mobo...it read the Cellshock rams DDR2-1066 EPP(533MHz) and set it accordingly...vdimm set @ 2.3v...
by the way ang ako board kay mo support ug ddr2 1066. abi nko typo lang ang errors sa uban pricelist kay nag libog jud ko sa mga speeds nila. thanks people now i know what to buy and what not to buy. ^^,
poldopunk, bro naka idea ngano ila pa man gyud giusab/gimove ang notch sa ddr3? mas maayo nalang to kung same lang sa ddr2 para dili na mag-usab og mobo bah?? bali upgrade to higher speed rate w/out changing the ram board physically.
bro mau na g ingn dli mn sla mka kwrta kun dli sgi upgrade.so wa jud nai undang kai mka kwrta mn sla sa mga tao na mamalit.samut na nice kaau performance so go jud dayun ang mga people.sla ra na datu anang technology nla.kita wala jud ai.![]()
pero diba naa man pud ta benefit sa atoa part? Besides atoa man nang choice if we go upgrade to a newer technology or settle ourselves on the old one. Wala man ta pugsa. If wala pa sila nangwarta as you say it,..then we could have been stuck with pentium III's, pci graphics adapters and sdram modules.
