Again event is different from command. Although it happened it just shows how sinful Israel at that time. And therefore God has the right to punish them.

the point is this people came with direct contact with G.(allegedly) they got the commandments from G, first hand(allegedly). these people could have been a role model with upright moral fiber intact. reference to moses and his ilk.

First things first kebz, heart does not have ears, eyes or brain. You central nervous system provides that feeling not your heart. You misunderstoot it. Did I say Israel is our raw model? This Just shows how hard headed they are.
The whole context about Israel as a nation in fact shows how sinful they are. And how God's grace although not escaping the consequences if their unjust ways He would eventually forgive them.
