I had the same problem with my Les Paul copy a few years back...grounded wire pud. two contact points were soldered too close together and when it oxided, diha nag ka problema. but a blast from contact cleaners and after cleaning the contacts with a toothbrush ni limpyo na og balik ang sound.
Its an MIJ fender strat mga 1993 tingali ni nga model so its ancient and working pretty well but the hiss. Im quite relieved that u said its a grounding problem. No one has ever told me wd40 is a NO NO but this thread. I hope sakto imu gihuna huna nga nag oxidize ang wires resulting a ground

mao jud na main cause, sunod nanang hardwares stuff.

250k pot for guitar, wala namaligya audio taper pots diri cebu, maybe naa sa SM.. salonga, wla ko sure...
capacitor parallel or series to a resistor or capacitor alone na ibutang sa volume knob as mentioned earlier is not so necessary for single coils, since single coils are bright enough already, ang main function niya is to bleed more treble when the volume is roll off, retaining high frequencies sa imong guitar..
Jan wala mansad crackling sound if i turn naku ang pots as in no issues with the pots except for the hiss ra. Any electrician can solve this prob ra tingali including the electronic appliance guy.

hmmmm....bai, try kuno this brad...wala pa nako ni mabuhat...but when I was still working in an EMS firm

we repair oxidization by re-heating the solder...

try kuno clean the electronics with a 100% IPA Solution (Alcohol)...clean with a toothbrush payts na...

then apply flux...or you may resolder some points (touch up lang)..kanang naay mga puti-puti and some ashes usually on discrete components...sa mga SMD you refer to this picture:

naa sad juy uban na mudetorirate na ang mga parts...reliability wise, maoy after effect...hum or noise...

    just my two cents...

Salamat kau Jan. Its very helpful. Murag kamao na ang tigtanaw ani. Mga TV man gud na kasagaran iyaha ug mga electronic home appliances so i bet he knows wat he's doing jud (maybe except for the wd40 that he's been using and probably never had bad experiences against it).
