Lunar bedrock has no Helium-3--it's the regolith that has been bathed in the Sun for BILLIONS of years, that contains the H3. So I don't think there would be any danger re mass change of the moon, and thus affecting tides.

Considering optimal positions of Earth and Mars on their orbits, about 7 months.

    Rod,

40th Anniversary of Apollo XI coming up soon!

I just hope the Michael Jackson hooplah dies down by then so the media organizations can put out tributes worthy of the event.

Yep. I seriously doubt there will be "good" coverage by the news networks. The best site to visit still, would be NASA itself. My company is currently involved in a project that is somewhat related to this event, so I might throw in a few notes about the anniversary in this section.

I do hope NatGeo, Discovery and History Channel all run specials on the moon landings. I'm certainly not looking to CNN for that.

In keeping with the spirit of the occasion, I am reading the book "Moondust: In Search Of The Men Who Fell To Earth" by Andrew Smith. The back cover reads: "Andrew Smith tracks down the nine surviving members of this elite group to find their answers to the question, 'Where do you go after you've been to the Moon?' A thrilling blend of hisotry, reportage and memoir, Moondust rekindles the hopeful excitement of an incandescent hour in America's past and recaptures the bittersweet heroism of those who risked everything to hurl themselves out of the known world--and who were never again quite able to accept its familiar bounds."

Neil Armstrong became a professor and essentially faded from public view. Buzz Aldrin became mired in alcoholism and depression. Charles Duke practically fell apart, picked himself up and became a preacher. Alan Bean became an artist. Jim Irwin said he "heard God" and likewise became a preacher.

Interesting reading so far, well written too.
