Yikes another mistake on my part

The LCROSS live footage seen later this 8:10pm, is NOT done during a lunar orbit insertion maneuver. Instead, it's part of a long "swing by" process that the LCROSS will undergo. The LRO (now separated from LCROSS) will indeed go into LOI, but there will be no video footage of that.

Nevertheless, the expected views of the moon, from the first "swing by" will be quite cool and amazing.

    Sorry for the confusion.

8:10 PM Philippine time (5:10 AM California time).

Here's a great video showing LRO and LCROSS...LRO is the one that inserts into lunar orbit the middle of the video (at 1 min 35 seconds into the video). LCROSS is the impactor that loops around the earth-moon system (2:23). After looping and "swinging by" several times on top of the moon, the LCROSS will separate into two objects and impact twice on the moon's north pole, forming two mushroom clouds (3:07 and 3:33), which will then be analyzed by LRO if they contain any water or ice particles.
