    Default Film making anyone?

Well, we have a lot of untapped artistic resources right here in our own back yard but the problem lies with our very failure to support local artistic endeavors.

However, if we can work hand in hand then the revival of cebuano's artistry in terms of filmmaking will be within our grasps.

by the way, do you filmmaker dudes know stuff about foley?

i always wondered how you can make a gunshot sound without having to use 'loud' pyrotechnics to record especially when there's a scene involving the report of a gun.

in a lowbudget movie you don't have to show the gun firing but i guess you can use foley. do you guys know how to operate foley?

    i'm speaking specifically of gunfire.

unsa man, pwedi ta mugamit ug drum? or actual gyud na butang na mu involve ug pyrotechnics.

Yeah, artistic resources include actors and we do have them here just waiting to be utilized.

Your question about foley is something that we do not utilize anymore. With the advent of digital effects everything is under the hood of your computer.

that's interesting. i was aware of the advances of computer technology nowadays, what it can do even to music and sounds, etc.

but out of ignorance, it doesn't have to be a 'digital' footage to be manipulated in the computer right? does it still have to be converted? or is there a 'hookup' device that allows you to manipulate VHS footage.
again, sorry for these kinds of questions...... i know you might be opting for more intelligent posts here..

also, this isn't technical stuff, but are there people - Cebuanos who know how to SCORE what they SEE? (movie)
i always thought it would be cool if there was some local talent who can come up with a decent, good enough score for whatever's depicted onscreen.

or can we just take already existing scores and mix 'em up and burn them, and then record them.

    also, screenplays. do they matter?
i mean, the basic rules of 110 pages only. show don't tell. and all the requirements of a spec, do they matter in an amateur lowbudget film; something that's also considered to be registered in a prodco sooner or later.

    hoping for more enlightenment. thanks!

Nowadays, digital video cameras (MiniDV and Digital abound and with this conversion (from one format to another) is no longer necessary. Video quality of digital format video cameras is far better as compared with analog VHS footage.

Scoring a movie is a lot better done with live music as against having them conducted digitally. We dont take that possibility out but low budget movie is a low budget movie (but it does'nt necessarily mean inferior quality end product).

As with the basic rules of screenplay, you can go away with that rule as independent film making is governed with different set of rules. The rule of adaptibility and experimentation.

So welcome to the age of digital filmmaking.

about scores, i think you just can get any music you like especially in this case, indy films. even local movies and shows on tv rip all the music up. copyright and infringement laws in the phils arent really that tight as opposed to other countries.
i, myself, always come up with different songs in my mind that would fit the scenes in a movie. oblivious to the fact that im daydreaming about it all the time. hehehe.

Just keep on dreaming r/brey. The greatest achievements of humankind were the result of dreams...and make it come true.

Vegas still rocks but am also using different NLEs for rotoscoping/masking purposes.

rotoscoping eh? you could try the latest from boris. boris red 3gl. thats one kickass all around proggy. i use it mainly for compositing though and it has become a compliment plugin to vegas 4 so the workflow can be quite seamless, literally. . main NLE is still vegas.

actually one of my main reasons on being interested in film making is using music for accompaniment of the scenes. music i daydream about are mostly from my favorite band though, so.... theres a lot to learn there.
