you know, you should sit in his class one of these days.. its a very very exciting and satisfying experience.. his students admire him as a teacher because of his passion in teaching.. its fun and refreshing..
i sat in his class this afternoon, and it was fun.. and i also had a very fun experience that i'd like to share here..
OT:
they were passing around the paper to write your name on for attendance na, and when the paper arrived to me, i immediately passed it to my left. the girl student at my left asked, "Why didn't you write your name on the paper?" The topic being discussed is social psychology.. they also discussed NLP or Neuro-Linguistic-Programming and the Laws of Persuasion, and one of the methods used is "mirroring"--you appear like the person you are talking to.. I didn't want to divulge that I am a teacher and just sitting in his class, so I told the girl student that I'm actually just sitting in for this class, my course is computer science. The girl was insistent, and asked what year I am, I was hesitant to reply, but I just answered shyly na 4th year na ako.. A couple of minutes later, she asked if I had any friends here, and I told her that I think I'm alone here, I don't know anybody. To my surprise, she extended her hand and introduced herself as "Jenny" (real name withheld for privacy), and claimed that now she is my first friend in class. Wow, touch ako sa gesture.. she's cute too u know..

She asked for my name, I gave it, and we shook hands. She was still persistent, she called her seatmate, "Angel", and introduced her to me also, and then she added, "Now you have two new friends in class."

Again, she is insistent, and analyzed me carefully, and confessed, "You know, I still don't think you are 4th year, coz you're not in uniform. How come you're not in uniform..?" Man my pants were on fire for a second there..

She tried to rationalize that some guys who are 5th year sa engineering are not in uniform, and I felt kinda bad that this girl is really nice, so I just told her na lng na I graduated already.. She immediately retorted, "You lied to me.." I smiled back gently and tried to explain to her that it's not that serious.. I told her that the lesson we are currently discussing is mirroring, and I thought that if I told you na graduate na ako, you might feel awkward in talking towards me. She responded back, "And why would you think I'd feel awkward?" Wow smart girl..

so I just explained to her gently, "For starters, I really don't know you.. and I just want to be careful. But I'll tell you the truth, okay.. " with my index finger vertically on my mouth like it was some secret truth to be whispered in trust, "I'm actually a teacher, and I just wanted to observe here my friend Sir Reg how he teaches in class." and she couldn't believe it at first, so I showed her my faculty ID and she was surprised and amazed, and quite amused and ecstatic.. she said she's glad that she has befriended me for now she knows a teacher in mathematics already and she told me that she has high regard for those people because they are good in numbers. Little does she know that I am even more grateful of her little act of befriending me in the first place. I hope students will be as warm and welcoming as she is.. I'll pass by Sir Reg's class again next next week, and hope to give this little girl a little present for her sheer kindness and friendliness..
