here's what i have gathered after various trips to the lumber yards:
1. the yard in consolacion - mahogany @ 28/bft airdried. lumber is left out in the open and there are checks at the edges. probably unstable and prone to warping. if you must use these, you have to stock it indoors for around 6 months to stabilize its moisture.
2. armourwood (available at home builders) - radiata pine @ 87/bft kiln dried and treated. this is a beautiful softwood imported from new zealand. very nice and stable but pricey
3. budget builders - mahogany (45/bft) & lauan (55/bft) - kiln dried already so it should be stable and straight. they also have yakal at 80/bft and its very heavy.
