In a way yes. Linux wasn't originally designed for desktop or home usage. Although they're doing their best to make Ubuntu as user-friendly as possible but it is still a Linux distro. There are still so many things that are not accessible or controllable from X-windows. Well techy people really don't mind in fact we love doing things from the terminal because it's fast and direct. But how about ato mga mama? What if sila ra usa sa balay then suddenly X-windows exits and bash is displayed?Unsa kahay reaction sa akong mama no? hehe...
Anyway, my wife is slowly adapting to Ubuntu. As long daw nga maka-check siya sa iya Facebook and Friendster and naay Ebuddy for chat ok na. She likes playing Farm Town from Ubuntu coz it's faster daw.
Let's continue to support open-source. For OS, I say let's support Ubuntu. What they've done is astounding! We can visit their forums and post suggestions we have for its improvement.
Go Ubuntu, Go OpenSource! I love compiz!
UbuntuStudio Rocks!
hmm .. i don't think so. I knew many major stock exchanges who are running their trading platforms in Linux. NYSE is running RHEL, SET and SGX is running RHEL and SuSE. ASX is still running Solaris though, but that will change soon. Here at our company, we're moving our application servers and our core trading platform on Linux. The reason why we ported most of our apps, is that Windows Server simply can not handle the huge volume and server load that our application is handling, whereas Linux handles it quite easily.
