Such is explained in detail in the book, Keeper of Genesis by Robert Bauval and Graham Hancock. Personally though, I would put it as the later agreeing the former in support of information from the Readings of Edgar Cayce about the Pyramids.

According to the Hancock book, the orientation of the sky in 10500BC, most especially that of Orion's constellation coincides with the actual layout of the three pyramids at the Gizah plain.

In the Cayce timetable, that is about the time when survivors from Atlantis came into Egypt.

Something to think about: until recently, modern engineers can not yet figure out how the pyramids are built. But then, that is another interesting thread.
