Seagates are alright, i have one that's 11 years old and still running, but i also have a couple bad ones. IBMs and Western Digitals are the best ones IMO. 12+ years and still running. From home, office, and friends' systems.

i have one. and its been working great for me. got it for about 6 months. used it for backup.
hey thanks for the replies.
so western digital is better than seagate?? I'm eye-ing the Seagate Barracuda but theres also a Western Digital Green Power for the same price... I'm looking for reliability. Since it's a big drive and will contain a lot of data, i wouldnt want to wake up one day to find out that the drive wont run anymore... thats what happened to my western digital that broke. it started making clicking sounds and it died... so what do you think i should buy? seagate or western digital? and where should i buy? and what enclosure should i use?
Seagate and WD are good brands...but before you buy, please check this first...
Seagate Knowledge Base
Get the model and serial numbers to check if it has the FW bug...you can then replace the item in the store you purchased it from if it does have the bug...or better if you can check the numbers in the store as you purchase...
i'm torn between the western digital or seagate... the one worth around P3000...
they both have the same specs right? same cache?
go on with the purchase... its just a hard drive.... either company works well.... its not like youre deciding to purchase a solid state or those WD raptors.... wherein there are huge differences.
hmm well yeah... but if they both cost the same, i'd like to make the most out of my money. with reliability at the top of my list.![]()
