space, the final frontier. these are the voyages of the starship enterprise. it's continuing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. to boldly go where no one has gone before...

everybody knows it's just fiction guys.

This post has no relevance in this thread. Please check the thread title again.

Furthermore, your last statement is not true. Not everyone is aware that Star Trek (or any other sci-fi flick or book) is just purely fiction, especially young kids, and some adults who simply don't care whether something is indeed based on fact or fantasy. Which is why when these kids grow up, they eventually have wrong notions about space travel, and thus, when they participate in forums on science, such as this, they insert the discussions with wrong ideas. And this is what I'm trying to prevent, and will keep preventing for as long as I can.

Better yet, why not participate and solicit an answer to the question(s) I posted? If you do that, you will no longer be off-topic.

As you can see from the video above, the closer an object is to the body it's orbiting, the faster it goes. But this is an elliptical orbit. In a more circular orbit, say two satellites, orbiting a planet, the satellite nga mas closer sa planet will orbit it at a much faster rate than the satellite much further away from the planet.

aw ang ako pagsabot ana man gud sir was; if in a circular orbit, say two satellites orbitting a planet on the same orbit, nya u place the other satellite on lower orbit nya same ra iya velocity as it was on the higher orbit mawala cya sa iya circular orbit mao kinahanglan cya papas pasan para ma maintain ang circular orbit.

but i find this thread very interesting and educational... more pa..........hehehe

As you can see from this diagram, two bodies (in this case, the ISS and the shuttle) sharing the same orbital altitude HAVE NO MEANS to reach each other unless one of them changes orbital radius, and this can only be achieved if you either do a retrograde or prograde burn.

    fine

    hehehe good luck sa makatubag.

First, a clarification. What you mean by "same orbit" is probably "same orbital plane", kay it's contradictory to be "on the same orbit" unya your next statement is "other satellite on lower orbit", so kung lower ang isa, how can you state nga naa sila sa "same orbit"? Diba?

Second point, define "mawala siya sa iya circular orbit"...so aha man siya paingon? Mahulog (towards the gravitating body, in this case, Earth) or molagpot away from the Earth?

mao ni ako pasabot nga same orbit

[quote]nya u place the other satellite on lower orbit[/qoute] pag permiro pareho trajectory(wa ko kblo sa term path cguro) then para illustration lng unta to nga ibalhin ang usa ka satellite mao tong naka ingon ko anang "lower orbit".

mawala sa circular orbit, would go elliptical or fall to the earth or lost in space

i already mentioned its just some more trivia about space shuttles and orbits for the general public..

as for answering your simple exercise.. like i said, that's basic *orbital* astronomy. i'm very well aware of the difference between atmospheric flight and obrital-near space flight.

magpa-exempt lng ko ani sir rodsky.. hehe.. naa ka mas-advanced diha na exercise?

then again, kudos to your effort for creating those posts with matching images.. i take it you really like to teach.

thanks for the educational and thought-provoking thread sir rodsky..
up till now,i only had a vague idea about how orbital space travel works..

i think it would be funny if i actually saw a shuttle traveling ass-first like that in the diagram..lol

If that statement was true, you shouldn't have used the words "orbital-near space flight" because there is no such thing.

Ok then, assuming your request is not a joke, I'll ask you a question. Answering this question will prove that you are indeed well aware of orbital mechanics and also, it proves nga you can be exempted from answering any of the questions here. So here's the question:

Why is it easier to send a rocket/satellite into a highly elliptical orbit around the earth, than a circular one?

If you indeed understand "basic orbital mechanics" then this should be a piece of cake for you.

I was a college instructor once, at MSU. I also taught amateur astronomy as a volunteer a few years back.

Most oftentimes, a misunderstanding or a misinterpretation of the manner by one delivers a point, that evokes the aura or appearance of being an "intimidating post" when in fact, it's just a means to express a point/idea.
