^I think you are just being sarcastic.

Tanawa sa ang show. It really happened. Airplanes are guided with air traffic controllers so kung tanga2 ang ATC or naa guba sa ila mga equipment naa jd disgrasya.

New Air Crash Investigation episodes this June! Yippeeee!!!
    I'm sorry. :-l

Big sky theory... the sky is so big that it is impossible for planes to collide. But planes follow what we call "airways", which are just like highways but in the air. The airways are designated on charts that pilots carry and are defined by ground-based navigational aids (VOR, ADF) or area navigation hardware (like satellite based GPS). If these airways were visible, you'd see them crisscross the sky like a giant lattice roof over your head.

Airways are there so that there will be a smooth, expeditious and orderly flow of traffic. Imagine kung diri sa yuta walay dalan, bisan asa lang padagan ang sakyanan, gubot kaayo, di ba?

But the airways also intersect each other, just as roads intersect each other. Kabalo pud ta nga kung mag bangga-anay man na ang mga sakyanan, kasagaran diha sa intersection.

Same thing happened with the DHL 757 and the Bashkirian Airlines Tupolev. They colllided where airways crossed each other.

To prevent planes from hitting each other, they are separated laterally and vertically (according to altitude). Controllers monitor with their radars and can issue instructions to separate the aircraft.

But for the times when there is an imminent collision, there is one last layer of protection called TCAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System). In effect, there are devices called transponders installed in aircraft that talk to (or interrogate) other aircraft. If both transponders sense an imminent collision, they will "talk" to each other and will resolve the conflict by giving out commands to the pilots to take avoiding action. One transponder will tell the pilot of one aircraft to go CLIMB, while the other transponder tells the pilot to DESCEND. If the pilots obey the commands, there will be no collision.

Ang nahitabo sa kadtong DHL/Bashkirian collision, the TCAS system worked as it should have. The pilot on the Russian aircraft was told to CLIMB, the DHL pilot was told to DESCEND by their respective TCAS systems. Kung mao lang unta to, wala unta sila nag bangga-anay.

But air traffic controller on the ground also saw that a collision was imminent and, unaware that TCAS had already issued instructions to the pilots, issued instructions of his own. He told the Russian pilot to descend.

The Russian pilot, already following instructions from TCAS, reversed his climb and descended. Nag bangga na nuon.

Nowadays, pilots are told when conflicting instructions are received from ATC and TCAS, the TCAS instructions are to be obeyed and the ATC instructions disregarded. So far, TCAS has worked very well since that time. Even in the Philippines, I know of some collisions that have been averted by TCAS. Usually, more than adequate warning is given out and planes miss each other with lots of room to spare.

    dark_phoenix,

NatGeo Air Crash Investigation junkie man ko. Hehehe. I also try to read up as much as I can on air accident investigations. I have a number of books on the subject.

Which episode man imong nakit-an nga nag bangga-anay pud? There are at least two other episodes dealing with mid-airs. The Saudia Airlines mid-air over India and the Aeromexico crash over Los Angeles.

@Tarmac: Katong ku an gani private plane ug commercial airplane nag bangga? NIya ang private plane dibah murag naay ni kalit ug buto (wing dapit) ato tapos wala sila kabaw na unsa toh pero the private plane landed safely ang katong commercial plane ang ni crash.

aw okay, katong naa sa Brazil? Gol Air 737 vs Embraer Legacy nga business jet? The planes were both at the same altitude... ang Legacy should have been at a different altitude but was never assigned a new altitude by the controllers as it should have been because the military controllers were not monitoring them properly.

Also, the Legacy, which was a brand-new aircraft being flown from the factory in Brazil to the United States, had an unknown problem where its transponders would stop functioning intermittently. Without the transponder, wala ni activate ang TCAS system to warn the crews on both planes that a collision was imminent.

Hangtud karon controversial gihapon kaayo ni ang crash.
