bro newbie pako sa computer unsa ni cia..
AM2 is the recent socket release by AMD for their Athlon X2 processors and AM3 is the latest socket for Phenom processors.
Mostly manufacturers has already manufacturing socket AM3 for phenom support processors. Phenom processors are faster than Athlon X2 of course it has 3-4 cores on it and expensive than X2 athlon.
These processors are built really for GAMES if youre a gamer so go for it.
naa man ghapon AM2/AM2+ na Phenom.. naa gani Phenom II na AM2+ gihapon..
AM2/AM2+ processors has 940 pins, while AM3 now only has 938 pins..
so if you have an AM2+ mobo then naa pd ka AM3 na proc, sakar ghapon na but u need to flash your bios first.. but if you have AM3 mobo unya butangan nimo og AM2+ na proc dli nana musakar..
and also AM3 mobo supports DDR3 rams na pd.. AM3 proc naa na cya integrated DDR3 memory controller para sa iya HyperTransport..
correct me if im wrong nlng.. hehehe.. mao lng pd ni ako idea..
socket am3 is design for ddr3 ram
amd will release athlon for socket am3 naa gane quad na athlon sila coming
naa sad phenom nga socket am2+
dili man sad ingog pang games ra ni nga mga processors magamit gihapon if mag chat chat or mag video editing ni sila
dili sad pang phenom ra ang am3
AMD already offers a handful of chips built on a 45nm manufacturing process, but if what motherboard makers are telling news and rumor site DigiTimes turns out to be true, the No. 2 chip maker will fully embrace 45nm for its desktop parts next quarter. These include dual-core Phenom II X2 500 series and Athlon II X2 200 series in June, followed by quad-core Athlon II X4 600 series and triple-core Athlon II X3 400 series in September.
In addition, AMD has a few new CPUs on tap for an end of Q2 / beginning of Q3 release. DigiTimes says we'll see the Phenom X2 550 and 545 both launch by the end of the second quarter, and the quad-core Phenom II X4 945 (95W) and 8xx (95W), triple-core Phenom II X3 7xx (95W), quad-core Athlon II X4 630 and 620, triple-core Athlon II X3 435 and 425, and dual-core Ahtlon II X2 250, 245, and 240 all in the third quarter. This in addition to 10 low-power CPUs. .

only difference actually is the memory type it can handle.
AM3 processors are equipped with controllers to be able to use DDR3 memory speeds. so simply put, the socket is the same, but the memory u use in the motherboard will be different. AM2+ is using up to DDR2 only.
the difference between AM2 and AM2+ is the HT speed.
means, sockets are the same. but then again, AM2+ and AM3 uses a lot of power, so old mobo supporting AM2 may not work.
< thinking of AMD Club...
