Again the Bible is about God. How he reveal his love for us and sent is only child to die for our sins. He created the Bible so that we might be able to know our Creator and how much he loves you and me.

The bible is not about you and me.

So for those people who attempt to destroy Bible... You are just one of the people for centuries attempting to discredit the bible but cannot even if they spent their lifetime none are successful meaning FAIL. Search google and type in Bible Accuracies instead the you will realize THAT YOUR QUESTION ABOUT GOD doesn't even come close to tons of Answers you are seeking.

    Peace to all readers.

Bro I'm not Catholic but your question is something senstive and offensive. The reason bro is Doctrine. Its like saying why do we cry when we worship.

Thats how they worship and they know it. Its up to them bro. Its good for you to realize such thing. But don't ask some offensive question for sure you will get into trouble.

Salt and Light : Easy Printing Version

There are two broad approaches to seeking to shape values in society. At times the Christian community may feel it needs to confront a particular value, decision or priority adopted by the community. But the Christian community is also able to influence values day in, day out through bringing a distinctively Christian approach to the people we come across as we go about our daily lives. This is what we mean by being "salt and light" in the world (Mt 5:13,14), where by living distinctively Christian lifestyles we seek to influence those around us, and through this the values, decisions and priorities adopted by our communities. This page offers some reflections on being salt and light. Click here to view some thoughts on running a more structured campaign.
Pause for Thought : Start off by thinking for a moment where your influencing opportunities are. There will be many more than you may at first realise. Jot down a list of the times and places where you come into contact with other people.
Next think about some unrealised opportunities - chances that you have to come into contact with others within the community that would be relatively simple to do.
Thirdly, go back through this list and reflect for a moment on which offer the greatest opportunity to influence others : where there is a chance for dialogue, where community decisions are taken, where it's possible to spend time with people who can influence your community.

Jesus challenges us to be salt and light - to influence the world, and to be seen to be doing so. You might like to spend some time reflecting on this passage :

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Mt 5:13-16

    1. You are the salt of the earth. ·By beginning with You, Jesus emphasises to the disciples that they have both the calling and the responsibility to be influencers in the world. Salt is a number of effects :
salt and lightas a seasoning agent, it improves the taste of the food that it comes into contact with, and so as we come into contact with society our Christian values should improve the nature of that society.
salt and lightsalt makes people thirsty - and as Christians we seek to create a thirst in people's lives that can only be satisfied by Jesus, who said : "if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me me and drink" (Jn 7:37)
salt and lightSalt is used to thaw ice on roads : so it can have the effect of warming hearts that have hardened against the gospel - over time the saltiness of Christians can bring people to know Jesus Christ.
salt and lightas a preservative, salt gives food an improved length of life. Ultimately, with enough salt, those who do know Jesus, and acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour will have eternal life.

    2. Salt which loses its saltiness is useless. · Jesus' teaching is challenging. There is little room for those who are Christians, but who have lost their saltiness, or their "edge". Without the testimony of lives lived out with integrity and consistency with the principles that Christians claim to follow, the testimony of our lips is useless. But be clear : this does not require us to be perfect : knowing our sinfulness, and knowing our need to confess it and be cleansed of it is a vital part of the Christian gospel. Then, as v16 says, "let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

    3. You are like light for the world. · Light shines on dark things and exposes what is there. This is a call to the church to challenge evil within our society, however uncomfortable this may be. Having humility and servanthood within our character does not make us toothless and wishy-washy. The light that we bring, is not our own light - it is not who we are in ourselves, but rather the light of God shining through our lives as the Holy Spirit works through them. This doesn't mean that we have to refer to God in every other sentence, but when the opportunity arises, we can share with another person the light that God has given us.

    4. Don't hide your light. · We hide our light when we stay silent in the face of discussion which is contrary to that which we believe. We hide our light when we fail to accept and conform with behaviours that are not in line with Jesus' teaching. We hide our light when we don't care for the needs of others, and walk by on the other side : since we have missed an opportunity to let the light of Jesus' compassion shine out in acts of kindness. If we let the light of the Holy Spirit at work in us shine through, then we bring glory to God, and there can be no greater joy than being able to give glory to the Father as we go through our daily lives.
Pause for Thought : After reflecting on this passage, revisit your list, and spend some time in prayer asking God to show you opportunities where you can be salt and light as you live out your life. Pray not only that you might have insight now, but also that you would become better at spotting the opportunities to be salt and light as they arise.

Tada! You are well Right... Ill highlight the summary bro. To all the Readers Please reflect this to yourself this is a very important lesson to learn from God.

Jesus challenges us to be salt and light
    Salt:
salt makes people thirsty - and as Christians we seek to create a thirst in people's lives that can only be satisfied by Jesus, who said : "if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me me and drink" (Jn 7:37)

    Light:
The light that we bring, is not our own light - it is not who we are in ourselves, but rather the light of God shining through our lives as the Holy Spirit works through them.

    To Regnauld:

Bro you are taking verses from the Bible and yet you don't Believe in it. What you are presenting is Gods Challenge for the Christian to be The Salt and Light of the world. (He told his desciples and his people in this specific verse). It is just one of the fruit of the spirit to act in righteousness. He came for our sins and died for us.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. This is what Jesus came for. The Bible is not about you doing your part because no good works can save you. Its about God and his love for us.

    Last thing bro FYI:
God Teaches us a lot of things and order us a lot of things. If you take one commandment does not make you exempted of the other commandments. Let me give you a clearer picture.

God Gave Moses 10 Commandment right? I guess u heard about it. Obeying one commandment does not make you exempted of the others right? sound Logical right?
    You said:
"You are the salt of the earth" this implies to you that Jesus just came for this. what about this?
Jesus came to "seek and save the lost" (Luke 19:10).

Hope you do acknowledge that bro if you are a Bible Believing person. If not then please stop using Bible as your excuse it doesnt help you. Peace Bro.

    Salt and Light
That is just your interpretation as a Protestant!

In the first place, Christians are to be the salt of the earth. When we want to stress a person’s worth we often say that he or she is the salt of the earth. In the ancient world, salt was highly valued. The Greeks called salt divine. Salt performs two important functions. It is the commonest of all preservatives. It keeps things from going bad. For millions of people in the world, salt still has this purpose. In the second place, salt gives taste and flavor to food. Food without salt is insipid.
The Christian’s task is to be the salt of society, preserving, reconciling, adding taste, giving meaning where there is no meaning, giving hope where there is no hope. It is about the quality of life. It is interesting that when the early Christians were persecuted in the Roman Empire, the Christian Apologists pleaded for tolerance saying that society continued to exist because of Christians. What they were saying was that Christians upheld the good values in life, they worked for reconciliation and peace, and they prayed for the empire and its well being.
To be the salt of society means that we are deeply concerned with its well being. We preserve cultural values and moral principles and make a contribution to the development of cultural and social life. We add taste and flavor to the common life. Because there are Christians in a city or in a village, its people should be able to praise God for the harmony and fellowship, joy and happiness which Christians bring to the common life.
We are also called to be the light of the world. The New English Bible translates: ‘You are the light for all the world’. It means we are to be light in all aspects of the world’s life. It also means we are to be light for all the people of the world. It takes us out of our preoccupation with the welfare of the Christian community alone.
One of the serious problems in the world today is religious communalism, that is, people’s preoccupation with the interests of their own religious or ethnic group. The conflicts between Roman Catholics and Protestants, between Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox, between Jews and Muslims, between Muslims and Hindus, between Roman Catholics and Muslims and between Shia and Sunni Muslims are facts of life today. We are called to be the light for the world. Jesus Christ is the real light which enlightens everyone.

Bro I strongly agree with you. If thats what you are interpreting it then we did not differ much... the main difference bro is serious and you know what? its the FOCUS.

You take out the verse in the bible and make it a focus right? But the Bible is about God and God Alone. He commanded us to be salt and light to show to people around the world that we are believers in Christ that people may know him and believe in him. You cannot deny the fact in the Bible that he came for the lost for the sinners like me and the rest (hopefully you acknowledge yourself being one of the sinners). It is not right to take a verse in the Bible and show it to people this is what God wants me to do and this is all im going to do period.

To make this argument short. Jesus came as a fulfillment of the Old testament prophecy and that the New Testament is our new covenant with God not the Old Testament anymore. If you want to know what are your obligation as Christian (followers of Christ). Then I urge you to read the whole new testament. You start from the Book of Romans onward.

IMO: You might summarize the whole of the Bible as Jesus Christ Son of Yahwee. (i dont contest if you will react, i just explain my understanding on the Bible no offense.)

    Keep the Faith!

Nice observation bro. Appreciated and well said.

Then it becomes a matter of choice between Christ or Something i cannot describe... sorry.

A choice which one you will serve and there is no middle ground here. You want Christ or the Otherwise.... hope this sounds logical to the readers.
