Philippines Listed in the Next Eleven?

1. macroeconomic stability

2. political maturity

3. openness of trade and investment policies

4. quality of education

While I highly doubt #2, the others are good indicators. Even if the actual real-world results prove to be false, one must not forget that this is just a product of "plugging in the numbers" to a statistical formula to arrive at a result. Since most of the time, statistics DOES work, I'm inclined to say that, barring any major economic failure, or natural disaster, inclusion of the Philippines (based on those criteria) into the list is valid.

Please do look carefully that there is no assurance that these countries will be the largest and influential economies, that's why there is the word "POTENTIAL" which means that these countries "CAN" (basing on their current performance) have the largest economies by the 21st century.

I can see that this can and will maybe happen (own opinion) because of the current recession in the largest and the most influential economy in the world. There is currently a devaluation of the dollar that will cause appreciation on other currencies like the Philippine Peso which is expected to be on a 40-42 Peso-USD exchange in the next months maybe next year. The Philippines along with these countries will emerge as the largest economies because of their hard work to achieve prosperity in the so called "Asian Century".

40-42 pesos per dollar in the next months? Where did you read that? From what I've read the rate is expected to be in the 48-50 range as the year progresses. It would already have surpassed that range were it not for the BSP intervening daily on the foreign currency market. Since April last year, the BSP has been using its US Dollar reserves to buy pesos on the market to keep it afloat (in the 47-48 range lately). Without their daily intervention on the Forex, the peso would likely be in the low 50s range now. Better check your data... Seems a tad out of date.
