Sure, these people are thieves and snatchers, but their crimes aren't serious enough to warrant anything near death. I find it ironic that people are willing to trade in instances of robbery and snatchings for MURDERS - actual people being killed. There's an appropriate punishment for theft, and it's not the death sentence.

Now, should these petty thieves graduate and manage to kill someone, then they cease being thieves and become murderers, and THEN they deserve death. We don't punish anyone because they might do something, we punish them on what they have done. Punishing people based on possibility at best strikes me as rather stupid, and at worst incredibly dangerous.

Plus, anyone notice that all these salvagings only happen to people who are useless, poor and inconsequential? Nobody EVER tries to kill that corrupt general, visiting European pedophile or drug-running Chinese expat. Why is that?

common' man! you gotta start small... just like business... are you not going to hunt the killer if ever one of your beloved peeps is the victim... why wait for it to happen?? we know for sure that those big timers have contacts, and those big timers can't work without their small minions running errands for them... at least if the punishment suggested by @godcode will become a threaten to those planning to join the criminal side...

maybe for now, all we can do is identify the criminals... is there a way that the police can post their pictures?? like in the web?? at least we could help pass the pictures around through email...

We can't use our emotions when judging crimes, because that leaves us open for other people to judge us by thier emotions. The law is emotionless for a reason.

Get real, this is real life, not the movies. There are no massive criminal organizations that control every thief and criminal in the city. Most of those thieves and snatchers are independents who operate freely, nobody tells them what to do. The people you're talking about, people in private armies who protect the big fish? They sure as hell aren't the ones getting shot (because nobody would want to).

The sad fact is, these criminals are getting killed because they don't matter. They are weak and powerless, and people can kill them without thinking much at all. Nothing like real criminals, who upon knowing your trying to kill them, will kidnap, torture and beat you to death, harass, torture and possibly kill your family, burn your house, take everything you have and leave your relatives in poverty. Similarly, you don't kill the people who work for them for the very same reasons.

If we can identify the criminals we can catch them. Stiffer laws and harsher penalties, sure. Reorganize the prison system even better. But the death penalty for petty crimes? Nope.

i do believe there should be a stricter punishment for thieves who kill their victims. capital punishment could be an option i guess.

i agree wid Deus that petty crimes shouldn't merit death penalty. putlan cgurog kamot is ok. repeat offenders should merit harsher punishments, like flogging + prison or any other creative combinations. but i dont entirely agree on his statement that they are weak and powerless. the hell they are! ka isog ra nila nga mangawat/manulis, in broad daylight pa Death penalty should be for: rapists, druglords, kidnappers [who kill their victims w/o remorse]

Well their powerful in the same way anyone is powerful. Anyone can kill you. Your friend can kill you. A complete stranger can kill you. That little girl drawing with a pencil? She can kill you too. Real power is doing it without fear of repercussions.

last time, i was riding a jeepney going to USC-main, a driver told our jeepney driver that his passengers where "gi-tulis" near bayantel sikatuna..

since snatching has incremented to another level, which is "tulis" or hold up, why not set just one example and kill through firing squad tough holduppers...

or sige i-lessen lang nato gamay ang punishment, putlan lang kamot... sharo naman naa pa mo dare ug tulis... at least ma lessen nasad ang rate sa hold ups bah...
