It could be people in Japan indulge too much in fantasy and they often times disregard reality, the reality of raping for real.
It would also depend on culture. In Japan's culture women tend to be submissive to men. That's why its legal. Most of all people in Japan are more mature so they can handle these types of games.

You guys think this game is shocking...and it doesn't even involve REAL women...

...now let's see then, how'd you react to this article...

Similar human beings, yet two differing cultures. What is shocking to one culture may be totally normal with another.

You will not understand the world, if you choose to turn your back in attempting to understand why its peoples behave the way they do.

@Rodsky: Whew... Thank you bro for responding kindly... Makuyawan man gud ko post dire nga thread or similar threads kay sometimes people will tear you to pieces if they don't agree with your views hehehe... My fears are probably unfounded hehe...

Okay, seriously now, I have a few questions in my mind.

First is, don't you think that this game and similar games will promote a negative attitude towards s_x and women?

Second, if we know that there is that possibility that it will develop twisted attitudes in some or many people who already have deep psychological issues, why allow games like these to be made available to the public?

Lastly, what do you think motivates people into playing games like these? I mean, if a person is level-headed, rational, etc., why would he play games that are apparently violent and disturbing?

Answer to the first question: If that were true, then the game "Doom" or "Quake" should have been pulled off the shelves years ago, for promoting gruesome violence. As a side note, John Carmack, the creator of "Doom" and "Quake" created a space exploration firm, dedicated to sending human beings into outer space the commercial way, and gives research grants to budding young scientists and researchers who want to do research on propulsion methods--and that's from money made in making "violent" computer games.

Answer to the second question: Again, I turn back to the case of Mark David Chapman. Chapman was the person who killed John Lennon, and according to him, he was "inspired" by J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye" to do what he did. Now, probably millions of copies of Salinger's books were still circulating AFTER Lennon's killing. My question is, how many of the death's that have occurred in this world, from that time on, til now, are directly an effect of J.D. Salinger's book? If you can give me a concrete and definite answer to this, then I can go back to answering your question.

Answer to the third question: What motivates people to climb Mount Everest? What motivates that oceanographer to dive deeper than anyone else has gone before? Simple. Human curiosity, and the zest for knowledge and discovery. It's an innate trait, brought about by our enlarged brain, a by-product of learning language and the ability to store huge amounts of information in our "memory banks" and have the ability to filter, sort, and analyze through them. In essence, if it has not been done before (i.e. in this case, actually make a game about raping), then chances are, a human being will do it. Most of you see that as a negative thing. I see it as a positive thing.

When human beings dwindled in number to just around 2,000, sometime 50,000 years ago, and a famine and drought in the area they lived in, which threatened our ENTIRE species to extinction, we owe our very existence to the "weird" guy who said "Unsa kaha ang naa diha sa pikas bukid? Tan-awon daw nato beh."

Curiosity, and the zest for discovery will empower you in more ways you can ever dream of.

Di ba naa man sa'y mga animated nga porno films? So kini nga game it seems similar lang sa animated porno films only that you can manipulate the characters. What makes it worse pud the way I see it is that naa'y element of violence towards women.

Do you see pornography as a bad thing? Do you see it as a problem? Well, it seems nga kini nga video game dili maka-help ana na problem.

Then why do we make guns well in fact we all know that guns can kill?
Why do we have cannabis, coca bush well in fact mao nay ingredients para sa mga drugas nga makadaot?

    Just think of it……..
But here, I think, we have this opportunity to prevent something which can cause us problems in the future.

    Curiousity….. period

    Okay, thanks.

    Okay, I see your point.

I guess we have no way of knowing this.

I enjoyed Cather In The Rye very much when I was younger, and I can't remember if there is any scene in the book wherein violence was encouraged. With RapeLay, however, it seems to me (If the article described it correctly) that sexual violence is very much explicit and even encouraged.

Yes, I truly agree, exploration and discovery is a good thing indeed, and I'm all for it. But what positive thing can we hope to discover through this game?
