Yep, the Shat looked good then. As big a fan as I was of ST TOS, I don't want him in the movie, he wouldn't be credible as a Star Fleet officer for me because I have him associated with his character in "Boston Legal" now. Like my friend says, he's "all butterball".

Yes, and Captain Pike made a reappearance in "The Menagerie". Disabled already, though. I thought if they were going for an alternate timeline, they might as well have kept him healthy. But he's still better off than in ST TOS. Oh, and the alternate timeline conveniently let them do away with that confusing "Fleet Captain" rank. Pike bumped up to Admiral.

Edit/Add: My only gripe with the movie was that there were so many 'ad placements' like the Nokia touchscreen phone, the mention of the Budweiser Classic, etc.
At least the Enterprise wasn't running on Microsoft Windows. Then again, maybe blue screen error tong part where dili mo start ang Enterprise.

Waitaminit, Starfleet starships DO run on Windows:

it's about time that they give the good old star trek an update. from what i've heard, rottentomatoes gave it an almost 100% rating. LOL.

I'm happy to see that people here agree that JJ Abrams was 'respectful' to the original series. I'm not a hardcore trekkie but I did grow up on the series, watching it together with my parents and siblings religiously in the 70's.

I hope to watch it within the week.

so my question after watching the movie is
    Spoiler!
will the new spock be more human? trusting his emotions over his logic? (can anyone quote what Old Spock said to his yonger counterpart? hehehe i was not all ears then)

My answer to the question is....

    Spoiler!
I think he'll be more human. watching the young Spock kissing Uhura made me think that this Spock's libido is very high His pointy ears made me look at him as a horny rabbit

Ok...as far as i can remember eh Ambassador Spock told the young Spock to stay on Enterprise. he also told Young Spock to be like him and "lie" (i'm not sure what the exact phrase was but he was telling Young Spock to bend the truth like what he always does with Captain Kirk) like him in the future.

Finally Ambassador Spock told Young Spock "Live Long and Prosper" Young Spock replied "Good Luck" wherein if some people didn't catch it, it was kind of an in joke because Vulcan's didn't believe in luck

nice! almost 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes? I've never been a Trekkie but this thread is making me eager to make a beeline for the nearest ticket counter. Pero end of the month pa man na mag showing diri sa akong location. No spoilers lang sa.

The best thing about being a non-Trekkie and watching this movie is, in my opinion, having no expectations or points of comparison at all, so enjoy2x lang all the way. Especially with all those action and effects. Weee!

Did you know the old Sulu also had a huge part on Heroes? Remember Hiro Nakamura's father? Hihi...

Lastly, to those who enjoy satirical humor, here's a fake review of the Stark Trek movie on the Onion News Network. I find it funny

Hehe, Phil couldn't resist. He's an excellent writer and lecturer. I own one of his books (Bad Astronomy).

i gotta agree with Rod - the last line of Ambassador Spock was "since it will sound more self-serving, i'd rather say (along with the signature Vulcan hand sign) 'good luck!'"

but thanks for the great replies!
