nah. i frequently installed xp succesfully in different IDE cables with no problems at all. i even tried many times a cheap P15 IDE cable connected to a hard drive and with no problem. in my experienced for years, i never had a problem using ordinary/cheap IDE cables and exchanging from CD-ROMs IDE to the hard drives. as long as its confirmed a standard IDE cable, and not telephone cable, its okay.
limited ra ang mobos imong nasuwayan bro... so don't generalize nga OK ra...
and i know what i'm talking about, kinaon ko nang HDD ug mobo kada adlaw diri..
my observations are based on actual results, i'm not guessing...
ako diri kada adlaw ko nag-install on different mobos, naa jud issue with Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 on some mobos if u use the old IDE cable, the most frequent error msg u get is UNMOUNTABLE VOLUME.
haven't encountered this weird issue though with other ATA-100/ATA-133 capable brands of HDD yet.
