ako diri kada adlaw ko nag-install on different mobos, naa jud issue with Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 on some mobos if u use the old IDE cable, the most frequent error msg u get is UNMOUNTABLE VOLUME.

haven't encountered this weird issue though with other ATA-100/ATA-133 capable brands of HDD yet.

40pin IDE Cable << old ones
80pin IDE Cable (which katong "fine") << for new ones... I recommend this cable for Newer hd's..this cable design came out together with newer harddrives like barracuda or any harddrives that spins at 7200rpm just like ruelnov has said, in order to realize those transfer rates we have to use this type of cable for newer hd's. 40pin for barracuda as slave is fine.

CD-Drives have 40pin male port on its back. I didn't have any trouble using either 40pin / 80pin for old and new drive.. as long as the cable is 100% working.. and not even one connection is loose/cut.

@akari: unsay gigamit nimo nga cable kato la pa ang 80pin (pino) "diba ang 40pin for our Harddisks.....?"

@AMD: Basta gamit nako sa HD is kato Fine strips
and sa CDROM those that have broader strips.

If your HD is 7200 RPM you should not and never use 40-pin cable. Dapat it should be 80 pin cable or ATA 133 IDE compatible cable.

I would just recommend the FINE (80pin) cable for newer hd's. 7200rpm up like barracuda's...

80pin jud to achieve the highest performance of these drives.. 40pins for newer hd's? o.O better get 5400rpm nlnag hehe.. useless imo 7200rpm ata100/133 if 40 pin imo gamit

CD-DRIVEs are fine to either 40pin and 80pin.

limited ra ang mobos imong nasuwayan bro... so don't generalize nga OK ra... - im not. and i only faced various ecs, asus, msi, and redfox mobos ranging from socket 478 to 754, im sure you have more. i just shared what i experienced and had no problems. and i never encountered that "unmountable volume" issue too, only my cousin before but still with a 80-conductor IDE, and a western dig HDD.

and i know what i'm talking about, kinaon ko nang HDD ug mobo kada adlaw diri.. - hmm, i didnt tell that you dont know what you're talking about cause i know that you have that particualr talent, as you said, you eat hard drives everyday.

my observations are based on actual results, i'm not guessing... - me too. based on 5-year experienced.

ako diri kada adlaw ko nag-install on different mobos, naa jud issue with Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 on some mobos if u use the old IDE cable, the most frequent error msg u get is UNMOUNTABLE VOLUME. - have installed xp in many seagate 7200 barr with an ordinary 40-conductor IDE and had no problems, based on experienced.

and u cannot successfully install WinXP if u use the old IDE cable for CDROMs. - i did it succesfully to many computers. guess its a luck, hmmm, weird luck, too many.

anyway, this is only based from my 5-year experienced with various hardwares, and you have your own talent which i dont have so i hands-off with this. just sharing.
