A "few years from now" is a vague estimate. Give me an exact estimate and I can perhaps come up with a table to list the probability of humans surviving the catastrophe.

the human race won't live to see the sun explode in a supernova since we would already die once the sun becomes a red giant since the sun would expand and swallow our planet..
In the first place, the sun won't go supernova--our sun is a class G (Yellow) star. It will simple exhaust all its hydrogen and helium fuel after turning into red giant, and what you'll see afterwards is the "flowering" of a Planetary Nebula...
...the "flower" is actually the spent "shell" of the red giant being ejected into space...the tiny "star" in the center is what's left of the star, a dying white core...a white dwarf.
...so again, take note, unless some major instability-causing event occurs within the sun (highly unlikely), it will NEVER become a supernova, but only end up like a Planetary Nebula, pictured above.
Our sun, billions of years from now, becomes a flower in space. The earth? A burnt cinder (if it doesn't dissolve away after the red giant phase).

humans will start migrating to other planets such as mars...but if pakalit ra, aw wa tay mahimo ana....patay tanan living organism...
ka-boom.. kuridas tanan. LOL
i think rodsky's right. unsay field of study nimo bro, hilig lagi ka ani?? read your other posts. stars have their own life stages.. ma problema man ta sa ka-boom sa sun, but what if sunspots pa lang luto na tanan earthlings. saun?! then the filipinos, aw unang mamatay.
kalit rag kangitngit imong pananaw... ka nindot ana... lol
your right. A few years would be vague. Lets do it like this: say if we know today that the sun will go nova, and with our current state of technology considered, how many years do you think we will need so that we can have the technology to survive. Like how many years does it take to build a huge ship to transport all of us out of this system and into a new planet?
haha. luoy mga pinoy. Kaning mga hollywood movies or science fiction books always shows how other nations react with these kinds of catastrophe. kita, what would we do? or feel? or, magkagubot nalang gyud ta diri coz of hopelessness? Ang paet ana noh, is that once the feeling of hopelessness sets in, and gubot na kaau ta coz wala na ta future, and we just pillage and do everything distructive, unya na error ra d ai sila sa computation/observation, dili ra d ai mo buto ang sun... that would be something..
