Let's go back to my source:

The Jesus Mysteries: Was the "Original Jesus" a Pagan God? is a 1999 book by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy that claims to reconstruct the true origins of Christianity. It relies heavily on the Gnostic gospels found at Nag Hammadi. Prior to publishing Jesus Mysteries, Freke and Gandy had collaborated in writing books on mysticism and paganism. The authors suggest that a number of pagan mystery religions, such as those of Osiris, Dionysus, Attis, and Mithras, were all manifestations of a single cult of a dying and rising "godman" myth, whom they call Osiris-Dionysus. The authors propose that Jesus did not really exist, but was instead a syncretic re-interpretation of the fundamental pagan "godman" by the Gnostics, who were the original sect of Christianity. Orthodox Christianity, according to them, was not the predecessor to Gnosticism, as almost all scholars believe, but a later outgrowth that rewrote history in order to make literal Christianity appear to predate the Gnostics. They describe their theory as the "Jesus Mysteries thesis."

I've read somewhere bro nga discredited na daw ni ang "Jesus Mysteries" thesis. Ingun nila naa na lang daw sa fringes sa New Testament scholarship ang mga tao who still believe that Jesus did not exist or that Christianity was merely copied from earlier pagan religions or from mythology.

I actually have that book by Freke and Gandy, and I hope to read it someday.

This just reminds me about what you said in another thread. You believe that Jesus during his childhood years went somewhere to learn with the "masters" or something. Well, if what the Jesus Mysteries is saying is true, Jesus wasn't even born in the first place.

I believe that Jesus existed but the Roman Church is actually based on PAGANISM! Even our Parish priest told me, Fr. Fausto Luzentales, CM that the church is basically PAGAN in origin!

Do you know Fr. Reginald who was interviewed by Bill Maher in Religulous? He did not even believe in Jesus birth and the doctrine of HELL!

But from what I understand, majority of NT historians are actually in agreement that Jesus really did exist. These scholars aren't just Christians, there are also skeptics among them.

I haven't seen the movie. But the view of one man is not representative of all.

No question about it that Jesus did exist. My point is that The Roman Church is basically PAGAN in origin because Christianity was not founded on Catholicism but true Christianity was GNOSTICISM!

I also don't think that Gnosticism came before Catholicism. Sige lang I'll look into that.

You might want to read and study The GNOSTIC GOSPELS by: Elaine Pagels (is the Harrington Spear Paine Professor of Religion at Princeton University. The recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, she is best known for her studies and writing on the Gnostic Gospels.)
