It was former Pres chief of Staff Defensor who filed the case against Lozada pertaining to Lozada's claims that Defensor asked him to lie about his supposed kidnapping by govt officials and policemen when he returned to the Phils from HK in Feb 2008.
"Magkaiba 'yung sinasabi niya (He was saying different things) …If I don't correct and amend it, di habang-buhay ko na kakargahin ito at ng mga anak ko (I and my children will forever bear the stigma over this),'' Defensor added.
He also said Lozada has been using his arrest to enhance his political ambitions.
Fearing repercussions on the administration, two Cabinet officials called him up to convince him to drop the case against Lozada, the former Palace chief of staff said.
"(Press Secretary) Cerge Remonde called me up last Saturday, and (Presidential Political Adviser) Gabby Claudio called me up on Sunday. Cerge again called on Monday evening. They asked me to withdraw the case, because the Lozada issue was dead but is being revived,'' Defensor told reporters.
Although he does not want Lozada to go to jail, he is not withdrawing the perjury case for the sake of his family, Defensor said.
“I reiterate that I don’t want Lozada jailed. My only intent is to clear my name. This is not political for me,” Defensor said.
