I just would like to ask you PC experts out there about what's the best hardware setup requirements for Sony PS2 emulation. I was able to dload a PS2 emulator with plugins these past days and gave it a try on my PC. I also dloaded some PS2 DVDs in .iso format and burned it on a DVD-Rom @ 4x speed.
I might say the program works fine with no errors. The only problem is the quality of the emulation. Playing the PS2 game on my PC turns out to be so sloppy and laggy.

I was just wondering... is my hardware not capable enough? or is it just the software? By the way, here's the setup of my PC:

    Motherboard: AsRock ConRoe 1333-D667
    Processor: LGA 775 Intel Pentium D 925 (3.0Ghz,800Mhz FSB, 2Mb L2 Cache)
    RAM: 2 x Kingston 1Gb DDR667 - DDR2 bus
HDD: Primary: Seagate 40Gb Sata(i dunno how much cache...)
Secondary: Seagate 80Gb Sata(i dunno how much cache...)
    VGA: PCI-E Sparkle NVidia 7200 GT/7300 SE 256Mb DDR2 64bit
Sound: Internal audio RealTek ALC655 audio codec
    Optical Drive: LG 22x DVD-RW/CD-RW/DVD-R/CD-R

Please tell me which part to upgrade. I checked the emulator's web site but they don't have any information regarding the emulator's hardware requirements. Also, for those who already tried using a Sony PS2 emulator with nice performance, please include your hardware setup. By the way, the Sony PS2 emulator that i'm using is PCSX2 v0.9.6.

Hoping for your reply. Thank you and more power...
According to this: PCSX2.net - About

PS2 Emulation is a complex task, far worse than emulating a console from the previous generation (PlayStation1, N64, Saturn), simply due to the CPU power required to get 'playable' speeds from a PS2 game under emulation. Whilst speed can be improved via various 'recompilers' (eeREC and vuREC, Emotion Engine recompiler and Vector Unit CPU recompiler respectively), you will still need the latest and most powerfull machine you can get your hands on to even break the 30 FPS mark.
    Hope that helps.

I had no problems even breaking 60fps on the games i tried with the emulator, my machine is not even remotely close to "the latest" but i do agree it requires a really fast CPU to emulate all that code.

PS2 emulation need a lot of computing power(CPU) cause most of the console emulators substitute commands from the consoles emulated system to your x86 system. It's not as efficient as what Microsoft did with their XBOX games, XBOX is really a PC so the consoles system is the same with your PC. There's no or only a little emulation on games like Gears of War...

So if you want to play PS2 games on your PC smoothly you need to upgrade your processor.
