Im sure if your going to put a highspeed internet in Cebu just for video call to be able to stream video back home, then downstream is important. unless you want your parents to stream a high quality video stream from them as well, so they need a higher upstream as well. I think 1Mbps (that if your not going to stream high definition video) down/ 256kbps up is fine, but the higher you will subscribe the better.

But if your gonna need to have a descent video from your parents, depends on the quality of video you want to stream from them. The higher the quality, the higher speed you need to stream with ease. Im not an expert on this, im sure somebody who has more expertise on this could solve your problem in here. But if your just going to use Skype, i think they will only need to have 512/128 dsl line.

First off shes not using skype or any of that other software based program. She's going to send a hardware based VOIP/ Video PHONE, so most likely this is going to require high upload and download speeds. Let us remember that she lives in a place that has high speed DSL most likely 10mbps+ just like in the USA there slowest DSL right now is 12mbps from COMCAST, and yet ga pixelate gyapon ang video. So in conclusion to get the best video possible without breaking your wallets, get an Asymmetric DSL 3mbps connection. Meaning you get 3mbps download and upload speeds at the same time. Good luck!

I suggest you use a computer with Skype or YM on it. 384kbps would be enough already.

A hardware based VoIP/Video Phone does not always ensure the best possible image quality, infact i dont know if any of those phones can beat the image quality of logitech's vision pro combined with the right video conference software ( not the msn/ym/skype crap people use ) and like i said above having 384kbps or 100mbps will not help improve the picture quality you get.

12mbps is not the slowest internet you can get in the US, my uncle still uses 1.5mbps at home and over 100mbps at the plant.

In short, limited gyud ka sa kaya sa imong "hardware video phone"
