I think Filipino cuisine is more Spanish than Asian. Atong mga pagkaon, kargado mga heavy nga sauces. The flavors also are "heavier" than other Asian cuisines. It is not the healthiest, but it is the best-tasting! Mingaw lechon oi.

^you're right, 300+ years of spanish rule niresulta aning atong cuisine.

    personally, i'd like to see:
    - more dishes prepared by boiling, steaming, or grilling. pre-spanish era style.
    - Mexican influence: tortillas na pod aron dili sige rice.
    - Korean influence: eating lettuce with meat. aron di pod kargado karne ug aron mabusog og dali.

^likewise gyud, I like Korean and Japanese. Simple pag prepare, simple ingredients, with a light, "clean" taste.

I often wonder why dili kaayo sikat ang Pinoy cuisine sa abroad. We've been warped by Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. Ang ilang mga pagkaon, definitive sa ilang culture, very distinct. Ang atong pagkaon, sagol2x, a mish-mash of all things.

    Consider the following:

    staple - rice
main courses - usually meat-based (ex. adobo, mechado, afritada, dinuguan, lechon, pochero, etc.)
typical breakfast - rice, fried egg, hotdog / fried rice, tocino / bread, coffee
typical lunch - rice, humba, softdrink
typical dinner - rice, monggos, fried fish, sawsawan

i think our lechon is becoming a coveted delicacy among foreigners. And our cuisine tells us how practical we are - No animal organ is ever wasted. Note the ginabot.

for us who are still here in the philippines, let's just be thankful that filipino foods are available whenever we please. sa mga balikbayan, ang mga pagkaon nato ang usa sa rason ngano magbakasyon sila dinhi. gaining a few pounds is part of their vacation here. besides, filipinos now are more health conscious. with americans, i'm not sure if they have a longer life span than us filipinos considering they are one of the fattest countries around with their fastfoods with big servings.

many of us now have lunch in fastfood restaurants serving pinoy style rice+chicken. college students are eating streetside siomai and puso.

asa naman intawn ang nutrients ani. ato pod ning tinuyuan kay maski mo adtog karenderya mopili man gyud og humba nga tag P25 ug dili jud ang pinakbet o tawgi nga tag P8.
