if theres no telltale signs if the person your with or soon to be with is mr. right or wrong...then i guess you just need to enjoy the ride with him while your at it!
if it will not work out...at least you'll have no regrets and you'll have few bad memories with the person!

you have to kiss a lot of frogs before meeting your prince..
take your time, avoid jumping from one relationship to another to avoid the record, hehe..nway, before going into a relationship, analyze first, if your feelings are really true, research about the prospective bf(?), are his shortcomings acceptable to you..and the list continues...
