Default Are divx/xvid movies the new form of piracy in the Cebu?

No posting of links and/or locations of these pirates please!

It has come to my attention that dvd rips of just released original dvds in the us are being sold here in Cebu. Most of these are being sold as multi-movies in one pc dvdr. These movies can be played using those cheap divx/xvid/mpeg4 capable dvd players like GanzKlar at Makro. If compared to those multi-movie video dvds which can readily be played on regular players, the video and audio quality is much better since they're almost the same quality as single original dvd-copied pirated video dvds.

Do you think this will be the new form of piracy that will be prevalent in Cebu?

No posting of links and/or locations of these pirates please!

    so??

dugay na man ni nga isyu, bai. common knowledge is that the pirated dvds we all see everywhere are downloaded from the net, mass produced then sold in the streets. with broadband internet connection packages' price drop (a 300+kbps connection can now be had for P999 a month, unlimited access pa), i think diha gyud padung. but so far, its not picking up pa.

... piracy is always with us. It's growth is parallel with technologies advancement. Before, when you go to that famous "lounge" in carbon, all they sell are VCD's and look at them now, all the displays are DVDs. And the internet is the number traffic lane for pirates, first it was peer to peer file sharing then it evolved to a more stable and efficient form of file transfer called torrent. Piracy is here to stay.

I don't think those sites you are speaking about are legal...

First of all, they'd have to incorporate DRMs (Digital Rights Management) into these vids so that there would be no sharing. Secondly, I haven't heard or read about major film companies adopting distribution of movies through the net...
