DPWH EXPEDITES CONSTRUCTION OF P2.366 BILLION CEBU CANSAGA BAY BRIDGE

The Department of Public Works and Highways is working double time on the construction of the P2.366 Billion Cansaga Bay Bridge of the Cebu North Coastal Road Project, a high impact priority project of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. In his report submitted to Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane, Jr., Project Director Nilo Pamaylaon of Metro Cebu Project Management Office said the contractor Ciriaco Corporation has posted an accomplishment of 8.15% with a positive slippage of 6.8% for the month of February 2009. He said the project is expected to be finished before the end of PGMA’s term in 2010. Pamaylaon added that the bridge project aims to improve economic activity of central and northern Cebu. In conjunction with the Cebu South Coastal Road, the Project will complete the arterial bypass of central metropolitan Cebu, which consequently will ease congestion on the existing Cebu North Road and provide infrastructure support to major industries in the province. Engineer Vigor T. Jimenez, Project Manager of the Consultant CEDCO Engineers said that the project will be a direct link between Mandaue City and Liloan City. It will directly contribute in developing the region as a resource base to support the production activities of the industrial sector in the eastern and western economic development areas of the province. Barangay Kagawad Danny Andaya of Barangay Paknawan, Mandaue City said the project now really is a big help since it provides employment opportunities to many of his constituents and after its completion, the riding public will definitely enjoy easier and faster travel. Josephine Gitjano, a resident of the same barangay is very thankful because her son is now one of the laborers working on the project. Both chorused that they are very grateful to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and to DPWH for the project.
