    koy,

check out the foreign forums, i have read somewhere about converting mkv to avi. you better upgrade to a media player that plays mkv like popcorn hour a100 or the latest a110. somebody is selling popcorn hour in pdvd for 12k. it cost only US$189 if you buy direct from popcorn online but you will have pay shipping and tax (dhl). i got mine thru online but ends up costing the same price in manila.

if u happen to visit ormoc, text me and i will show you the popcorn hour. after i first watch an HD mkv movie on a 50" screen, i don't want to watch avi, divX or xvid anymore it took me a day or 2 to download a 4 to 8GB mkv movie but it's worth the wait.

HDTV works brilliantly on blu-ray plus with your home theater set up who needs the cinema?

here's the thing though: to have Hi-Def picture using over the air signal, some HDTV doesn't digital tv tuners so you need to buy analog to HD converter box. some countries already broadcast their over the air signal to digital - In the US by law, digital signals will take effect this coming JUNE 12. some station though are broadcasting digital already. this is where HD starts to kick in.

but while you subscribed on a cable, you will be rack up with sky-racketing bills to enjoy HD shows. you need to get the HD box, subscribe like HBO or cinemax etc. with HD programming so you get also some HD channels. without this things i mentioned you would only get the local channels having HD. fox, abc, nbc and cbs (depending on location) with the HD box which has a montly "fee". Dish on the other hand offer much better option. still you have to pay for monthly subscription. if you decide to just use sine-like copy dvd's then don't bother buying plasma or lcdtv it's not worth it. but if you use it for games like your Wii then your on the right track.

i hope ABS-CBN or GMA go with this technology sooner so we would be able to enjoy the benifit of an HD programming. don't expect your "Wowowee" show will be as cristal clear like watching blu-ray movies if you watch it on a HDTV because not until these big companies shift to digital broadcasting your HDTV has no difference from your standard analog tv's.

to those who have HDTV hook it up with HDMI instead of RCA you will see a big difference in picture quality.

Popcorn Hour A-110 is now being officially retailed by Harmanson Electronic Center here in Cebu!
Its P12.5K for the unit and P22.5K for the unit + 1TB HDD (preloaded with 160 movies <daw>)

When I asked about warranty, the one I spoke to (Cecile Ong) said it's 1 year since they're the official retailers for Popcorn Hour here in Cebu

    Source: Popcorn Hour Philippines

It's a good thing I held off buying A-110 sa
