"Decriminalizing Libel" What is YOUR stand?

The US is not the Philippines. Certainly a run away tongue is the last thing this country needs. We have already imported a lot of bad cultures from your beloved country and we don't want anything more. If you enjoyed the way your media exaggerate everything there... then enjoy it, just don't bring it to the Philippines. We want american money but not the culture.

why isn't it applicable to the Philippines? filipinos have brains too. again, the reason is the answer.

Istoryans, I want to know what's you're stand on decriminalizing libel, be it affirmative or negative, I want to know your side on the matter at hand.

For me, I'm for decriminalizing libel. Why?? because libel hinders media freedom, libel is also an ancient law that is not applicable in a DEMOCRATIC country like ours. Libel also hinders us from our FREEDOM OF SPEECH, which is guaranteed to us by the constitution under article III Bill of rights.

Freedoms are not absolute in a civilized society. Otherwise there would be chaos.

The Revised Penal Code provides for exceptions to libel. Also freedom of speech and of the press are well-protected by our Constitution. In fact, daghan gani ma-acquit of libel because they are justified under these freedoms. And decriminalizing libel might lead to abuse of these freedoms by some media personnel.
