Default GTX 295- is it the king?

    Conclusion

Anyone who really wants to play Crysis at 2560x1600 pixels will be disappointed by nearly any graphics solution, though GPU overclocking could make a pair of Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics cards in CrossFire mode a possibility. Performance leadership in other games is a toss-up between two GeForce GTX 295 graphics units in Quad-SLI and three GTX 280 cards in 3-way SLI modes.
What would we buy? While two GTX 295 units are cheaper than three GTX 280 cards, a single GTX 295 was fast enough to conquer 2560x1600 and ultra-high graphics settings in every game except Crysis. A quick look back at the performance-per-watt numbers also reveals the single GTX 295 as a top pick, and we have a hard time recommending a more expensive solution to even the wealthiest enthusiasts.
Nvidia set out to reclaim its single-card performance crown, and that is exactly what it has done here. AMD reacted by countering with a $50 price cut and $50 mail-in rebate on its Radeon HD 4870 X2, available through certain e-tailers, but that doesn't win back any crowns. Value on the 4870 X2 is up. However, Nvidia has the crown it set out to win. And true to its word, the GeForce GTX 295 is available for purchase already.

4870x2 will always be my bet.

almost the same performance as the GTX295 @ a CHEAPER PRICE.

talking bout 2 x HIS IceQ 4870 1GB @ CF mode, looks cooler too than a single card.

    ehehehe!

Talking about price alone, the GTX295 and 4870X2 are actually on the same price range in the Ph.

    4870X2 PChub at 24,750

    GTX295 TechJunction at 24,450

And if you have a retailer friend, ask him how much the dealers price for the Palit/Inno3d GTX295 and compare it with Sapphire/Force3D's 4870X2 dealers price

I think ATI has a strategy that its really not necessary to topple Nvidia as King. Look at 4870 and 4850 its one of the most videocards sold. I think its all about marketing strategy and not who's got the most powerful videocards although in marketing its one of the criteria but not the only criteria to get sales. If you still believe both companies are competing for the most powerful videocard you got pawned by them.

ATI is King of Price and performance. Although some local retailers are messing it up by jacking up the prices for ATI cards.

    new egg ATI 4870x2 prices:
    Newegg.com - 4870x2

    GTX295:
    Newegg.com - GTX295

The cheapest GTX295 is about: $499
    while 4870x2s is about: $405

I remember when Intel first introduced the RD RAM. Although the performance was great but it was so expensive that Intel discontinued to use these RAMS. Price to performance applies to manufacturers as well as to us consumers. Even if you are rich you simply won't waste your money on sensless expensive things.
