my take on korean history...
i think the US creates its own demons (like the Taliban that their CIA trained to fight off the Russian invasion of Afghanistan)
i read in a book that right after WWII, it was the people in the upper echelons of the US military that suggested the division of the Korean peninsula...for no apparent reason at all...
maybe just to appease the powers that be (namely the US and Russia)...basta, it was because of this action that North Korea exists today

as for the unification, many of the Koreans that I met actually have second thoughts about it...they think it would cause such a huge shock in their society...the economy of the north, for example, is so heavily damaged that once the peninsula is reunified, the south's economy would suffer badly...
