i swear i've seen a travel agency at SM advertising a low-priced tour to North Korea. dunno if it'd be at the capital or not.

but heck, i wouldn't dare. when i was in Japan, there have been sooo many incidents wherein schoolchildren were abducted from that side of Japan closest to N. Korea. these kids are kidnapped, brainwashed and tortured.

I heard that Korea was once a whole country but due to war, na divided ni sila until now. Ang north kay communist china gadala, while south was invaded by japanese. Civilians and ordinary people don't have access to the outside. If you can watch that on the NatGeo, timing timing lang jud, you will understand unsa ka weird ilang country. Others can escape going to China or South Korea, most are unlucky. Malingaw gud ka magtan-aw sa border kay mag gamit silag trompa to call each other kay kontra baya sila. Once mahibaw-an ka nga ni betray ka sa ilang country, tsugi ka diretso apil imong family. Many people are starving to death and maglibog ka how the leader uses their money such as nuclear weapons and nice wide roads pero walay mga sakyanan nanagan...If you can watch it on TV, you will somehow understand unsa jud ni ilang country and maybe you will think twice to go there as a tourist...There's no way south and north will get together kay lahi ilang ways, south are civilized while north are communist, dili ni sila pwede ma sagol kay mahadlok pud ang south kay ma angin sila sa tanan...they might end nga maglisod na ilang country. Just my two cents.

i saw this documentary. nice ang mass games. perfect gyud ang performance. maka admire pud ka sa discipline sa mga north koreans even ang mga bata. what i remembered from the documentary, in north korea they only have one tv station and one radio station, all airing about their "dear leader". talk about brainwashing. people who lives in pyongyang are those who are loyal and beneficial to the state.

my take on korean history...

i think the US creates its own demons (like the Taliban that their CIA trained to fight off the Russian invasion of Afghanistan)

i read in a book that right after WWII, it was the people in the upper echelons of the US military that suggested the division of the Korean peninsula...for no apparent reason at all...

maybe just to appease the powers that be (namely the US and Russia)...basta, it was because of this action that North Korea exists today

as for the unification, many of the Koreans that I met actually have second thoughts about it...they think it would cause such a huge shock in their society...the economy of the north, for example, is so heavily damaged that once the peninsula is reunified, the south's economy would suffer badly...
