funny how people are trying to go further away from the truth and go on and invent their own version of christianity even though this isnt a surprise since the Bible even talks about false religion. and the worst false religion of all is when they take Jesus and christianity into their own content acording to their convenient....hence the esoteric version of christianity

It's just a matter of translation bro, wa man nag-gamit ug English ang author sa Gospel of Matthew bro. Actually, the word "Peter" comes from the Greek word (Greek being the language this Gospel was originally written) "Petros" meaning "Rock". That verse could have been translated to "..that you are Peter, and upon you I will build my Church..."

Kahibaw man ta nga tawo ra ang nag-translate ana gikan sa original texts to English bro and masayop man jud ang tawo. If you want to connect Peter and Rock bro, use the original text.

everyone has their own interpretation. even you, which at this stage of your christianity is most likely your pastor/church's interpretation that you just adopted. and i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. maayo man sad ning naa tay spiritual mentor. what irks me is when people start claiming that ONLY their interpretation is correct.

Even after i became a christian i still need God's grace constantly and everyday because there are times that i stumble and make my music the object of my worship or my study for that matter by focusing more time on them and less on God.

The Bible says, whatever you do, do it for the glory of God. But then sometimes i do things for the glory of me. That's why i constantly need Jesus everyday. And i'm glad He's always there for me.

I'm answering this point because after reading the whole thread, I didn't see any answer on this very controversial matter:

btw 'inventing' is quite a harsh word... but the way I look at it... you seem to misunderstood the use of Papal Infallibility. Whether you like it or not, there will be situations when the Catholic Church's position/doctrine will be questioned. That's when infallibility of the Pope applies. You can't take that away because it is implicitly given by Christ himself. When the Pope speaks ex-Cathedra on matters of faith and morals, he does not make it out of sheer thought, that's years of study and experience PLUS Christ's promise that the Holy Spirit will be with him.

Do you honestly believe that the Catholic Church survived all these centuries by mere invented doctrines?

Gi usab man nimo ang passage bro ...

The word Peter in Greek is petros, which means "a piece of rock; a stone; a single stone; movable, insecure, shifting, or roll*ing." The word rock is petra, which means "a rock; a cliff; a projecting rock; mother rock; huge mass; solid formation; fixed; immovable; enduring."

did Christ establish His church? Was it on petros, a movable stone, or petra, an immovable rock?

"I say also unto thee [to Peter], That thou art Peter [petros], and upon this Rock [petra] I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:1. The text indi*cates clearly that the church of Christ is built on petra and not on Petros.

Karon kinsa mana si petra ...

"They drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock [petra, in the Greek] was Christ" (1 Corinthians 10:4).

So petra is the Jesus Christ.

Sa ato pa dili si Peter ang Foundation kundi si Jesus Christ ..

i was once a youth for christ in the catholic church and i really was searching for christ at that time. i even hanged and made friends with the catholic young defenders for awhile.

anyways now i dont care much which church people belong to cause i believe if they truly search Jesus, then they shall find. After i became a christian, i still served and went to the catholic church until i feel i wasn't growing spiritually plus i also started reading my Bible.

The Holy Rosary, Hail Mary, which we(JCFD) always defend as not a form of prayer but veneration.

and the ending part of our prayer that goes, In Jesus name through Mary, Amen.

the bible says there's only one mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5)

The idea that Mary is a Mediatrix came from one of her so called apparition:

Quote: Little children, I am the Mother of Good Counsel, Mediator, who is trying to persuade you to listen to the call. My message is of faith, love and hope. More than anything, it brings reconciliation between people and nations. It is the only thing that can save this century from war and eternal death.

    Apparition: Betania

Status: Bishop approved. These are apparitions in which the local Bishop (Ordinary) has investigated the apparition and its message and given his seal of approval (Imprimatur). This means Catholics can (but are not required) to visit the apparition site and listen and obey the messages.

Quote: …do not let yourselves be seized by fear or discouragement. Have great confidence in the powerful work of intercession and mediation of your heavenly Mother.

Apparition: Message number 441i to Father Gobbi.

Quote: Dear children, today I invite you to ask yourself why I am with you this long. I am the Mediatrix between you and God…

    Apparition: Medjugorje

Status: Not officially church approved, but it is endorsed by dozens of Cardinals, Bishops, and the Pope himself.

And this is what the bible says (taken from Catholic's new american bible):

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

For those who would argue that Mary is the mediator between us and Jesus, not us and the Father, the next verse in 1 Timothy refutes that argument.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human,

Hebrews 8:6 Now he has obtained so much more excellent a ministry as he is mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises.

Hebrews 12:24 ...and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently than that of Abel.
