Folks found this article written way back in 2007 - Speak Out Column -Initially they were planning to move it, I think the possibility of closure is Sad.
For some reason I dont know why they would move it in the first place back then? Article didnt give a reason for move. I was thinking if people felt it (library) would be a problem today they should have worked ways in saving it. I agree we need a public library, I hope we had people with vision that would work to build a library in line with the 21st century and think of ways to generate income to keep doors open for our youth, our students, or simply anyone that wants to learn and read.
We just cant simply say let us close it because we cant afford it anymore

Speak out: Library should stay
By Jenner S. Lobedica
Cebu City
REPORTS say Cebu City Vice Mayor Mike Rama plans to transfer the City Public Library to another site. But is the move acceptable?
I say it is not because the library’s present location is accessible to readers, writers and researches being in the heart of our metropolis.
Also, if the library is transferred to another edifice, the City will have to spend money for the purpose, including possibly rent.
That would be another burden for poor Juan de la Cruz and runs counter to the government’s austerity measures.
The City Public Library has been in the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum along Osmeña Blvd. since the 1980s.
It therefore stands to reason that for convenience and for fiscal considerations, the library should stay in its present location.
