That 13 year old father, by the time he's 33, he would have a 20 year old son.

    how cool is that?

one day he and his son would be drinking beer partying with girls together.

This might be a rather obtuse thing to say, but I have to argue that I prefer that kids lose their "innocence" at an early age, in the hopes that they would perhaps become better adept at handling all of life's ugly realities sooner, rather than later in life.

I've led a rather "normal, cheerful" childhood. My parents were quite liberal, yet they were pretty good disciplinarians as well--I don't recall raping anyone or robbing a bank when I was a kid LOL. However (and mind you, this is not to criticize how my parents raised me up), I do wish that somehow, I should've been told about the harsh realities of life earlier--I only began to slowly realize how hard life really was later in my life, during my college years, that it made me ponder if I could possibly have been more effective/efficient as a human being, if I only realized life's hardships and difficulties at an earlier age. So yes, I feel as if in a small way, I was pampered, to the point that I wasn't "tempered" enough to function better in a harsh, cruel world such as the one we live in now.

my mom was also liberal... if you were been told about life realities earlier you would have been jaded... life consumes people... i've read a short story back in high school... i forgot the title and the author... but it was a classic filipino story set in the rural areas probably before or after the war.. about a father who married young and his son asking for his permission to marry at a young age also... i forgot the quote verbatim but the gist was " love wins first, then life."

really values instilled by our parent makes us better equip to function in the harsh world... dont take it as weakness that you lived a sheltered life make it your strength, unlike the rest who made it through a trial and error... you are given a differnt prespective...
