The first books I ever laid my eyes on were my mother's MAD comic books.

Perhaps it was Alfred E. Neuman's distinctive peculiar but funny appearance that lured me to scrutinize the books with great curiosity and fascination. Of course, at that time, I was about four years old and didn't know how to read yet but I enjoyed the cartoons by formulating stories in my head based on what I saw. For the preschooler who still could not decipher words, it was a good thing there was Spy vs. Spy!

Later, when my reading skills were honed, I appreciated MAD even more as I learned to understand that some of the entries were satires from movie greats such as High Noon, Serpico, Robinson Crusoe, The Lone Ranger, etc. I also remember MAD having these whimsical ads like Stoppette (a potent underarm deodorant) and Carachi (an effective hair tonic).

for me it was an obscure Little Golden Book title..i think it was entitled "The little Brown Bear" or something can't really be sure but it was about a little mischievous brown bear.
